Hello all,
I was hoping that someone here might be able to help me out with a Born On Date, model #, and approx value of a couple of S&W revolvers that I just came accross.

1) K-38 Masterpiece Serial # K 165xxx
6" Barrel, Condition approx 85%

2) K-22 Serial # K728xxx
6" Barrel, Condition approx 90%

Thanks,
dave

According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, Second Edition (Suprica & Nahas), K165XXX is dated around 1952. K728XXX is dated around 1967. The current approx value is more difficult for me to say. You might go to gunsamerica.com or gunbroker.com and search to see if any of these models are for sale. That might give you a clue. I'm guessing between $300-$350 for the K38 and about $400-$450 or so for the K22. These prices are only semi-educated guesses and may be way off. Another forum member may be able to give you more details and a better idea on what they are worth.

Going by the 27th ed. (2006) of the Blue Book, there are 3 variants of the K 38, and sub-variants, all .38 spl.

Model 14 Target Masterpiece 90 % $275 80% $245

Model 14 Full Lug 90% $225, 8o% $200

Model 15 Combat masterpiece 90% $275, 80% $245

K22:
Model 17 Masterpiece .22LR 90% $235

Model 17 Masterpiece .22LR 90% $325

The 38's are offered on the web at somewhat higher prices; I don't know if they sell. I have not studied the .22LRs.

I have been looking for a similar model .38 spl or 38.257 to purchase, so I have been following prices.
