I got a chance to put 50 rounds down range with the K-38 Target Masterpiece this morning. I used 38 special wadcutters of varied ancestry. To those in yesterday's thread that said the Target Masterpiece was about the finest centerfire target revolver, I can only reply that you were understated.

I was shooting at 25 yards, offhand using a 2 handed grip, mostly single action. Folks, I had several 3 shot clusters (not one hole but where the holes touch). I had to aim at different areas to be sure I was keeping the shots on the paper. I'm at best a mediocre shot so these results verge on miraculous! This was some of the best shooting I have ever done. Trying some rapid fire, double action shooting spread holes around the target but those lovely clusters remained. :D I hope it wasn't just beginners' luck.

By the way, I had the best results with 148 gr. solid base wadcutters over 2.8 grs of Bullseye. I foresee a LOT of reloading that round in my future. Between the K-22 and now the K-38 I might learn to be a decent revolver shooter.

Regards, Jeff

yep, the Target Masterpiece IS a target masterpiece.
I love mine.

My best long-range target is about an 8" group at 50yds, standing w/ 2 hands, single-action. Wish I could shoot my .357 or .45 as well. I'm betting a new prescription would tighten that up a smidge.

What a lovely gun.

Congrats on your new tackdriver. Did you get the 6" or 8" tube? HBWC's will tighten things up a tad more when you get bored of those three hole clusters. :D

Friend of mine who I take shooting, he's a Marine 15 years younger than I, knows he has his pick from my modest collection, but just guess what his new favorite pistol is?;)

Just wanted to add that these are still found at reasonable prices, if others out there have not had the pleasure, do yourself a favor and try a 14 or 15, they can make anyone look like a marksman, match ready from the factory.

DJW,

I'm glad to join the tradition with that 2.8 gr. Bullseye load. It's especially helpful in that it lets me use the smallest Lee dipper or autodisk opening which will speed up the reloading process.

20nickels,

Mine has the 6" barrel.

My wife and I have a couple of weeks off coming up and I plan to spend some quality time at the range and the reloading bench. She wants to get used to her new CZ Kadet .22 conversion for the CZ75 and I want to see what I can do with the K-38 and K-22 when I can spend more than 30 minutes testing them. Cool autumn weather, a thermos of coffee, and my best gal shooting by my side. Ah bliss! :)

Anybody tried "Trail Boss" (a popular cowboy-action powder)in their target revolvers? I like the idea of a bulky powder filling up case volume in the theoretical interest of better combustion uniformity but I wonder about the accuracy potential.
