I have heard that 125 gr rounds are too hot for a K frame Taurus model 66 revolver; are 142 gr rounds too hot as well? Someone told me they will crack the forcing cone... I seldom shoot .357 except if I take a customer to the range and he wants to feel the "kick" of a .357, then we will shoot maybe 24 rounds and then the rest .38 specials...

not anymore or any less than any other round. Even the 125gr wound won't hurt the revolver when fired in a moderate amount with factory ammo.. I stongly suspect that where the story about 125gr bullets got started is with hand loads, loaded to the max and used extensivly in one pistol.

I can't see it happening as a general rule.

I thought the taurus 66 .357 was more comparable to a s&w L frame?
I've looked around gun shows but could never find a taurus 66 to handle in person.

142-grain?

Years ago I shot Fiocchi 142-gr. JTC .357s in my S&W M66 and encountered sticky case extraction which I attributed to being loaded a bit "warm." This bullet weight is not going to harm your forcing cone, though - this is associated more with the 125-gr. firebreathers at 1300-1400 fps.
