I have been wanting to order a k31 for a long time. I finally decided to order, and now I can't find any in stock. Gunbroker has a few, which is tempting. Even Simpsons seems to be sold out.
I did order a Swiss 1911, which I wanted as well.
Has anyone seen k31s anywhere?
Thanks!

I just checked Simpson's and was surprised to see them wiped out! A year or two ago they still had racks of them available. Sounds like the word about how good these rifles are has gotten out to everyone. Gunbroker still has some K31 listings, but nice condition walnut stocks command a premium ($400-500), but if you are ok with the blond beechwood you can still find a decent #'s matching one for $300. I doubt you will find any good ones in the local gun shops, the few I've seen were beat to heck for outrageous money.

The other issue you will find is the GP11 surplus ammo (normally about .50 a round, production ended in '95) has been out of stock everywhere for the last couple years. No idea when the Swiss will send another shipment. There is still plenty of new production PPU, but that's closer to .75-1.00 a round. Good luck, they are really nice shooters and worth it!

Yep, I was really surprised that none of the usual dealers have ANY in stock.
I know ammo is an issue, but this would be more of a collector anyway. I'm sure I'd shoot it a few times, of course.

They come in in waves. Wait for it and the next set will be along.

/Although with the way things are going with refugees over there, they may want to hold onto them and not export over here...

I'm in the same situation. I bought an M/96 first and now when I'm ready for a K31, I can't find one. Hopefully desidog is right and another shipment will be along soon.

myself also missed the boat, have the K11 and 96/11. waiting to add the k31 to the collection. These are definately must have in anyone's collection who appreciate milsurp

K-31's

Gee, you guys are about 10 years late--'way back then, a K-31 was about $125. Now, as noted above, a beater is more than twice that, and a nice one even more yet. As to availability, I see 'em at just about every gun show I attend.

As to the ammo--If you get a K-31, the only option that makes sense to me is to reload for it. The bolt action is VERY smooth, and for a milsurp they are above average in accuracy.

If you don't reload yet, getting a K-31 would be a magnificent excuse to start doing so...

10 years ago I didn't own any guns, let alone know what the heck a K31 was!

About 3 or 4 years ago I managed to find a couple of nice ones on Gunbroker. Paid $275 for the '51 beech and $325 for the '42 tiger stripe walnut. Then bought up 8000 rounds of gp11 cause I saw how sporadic the availability was. Sure glad I did! Keep looking, there are bound to be a few nice ones for sale now and then.

Yup, they're all gone; everybody out of the pool. No guns, no ammo, none will ever be imported or sold again. Never look into these rifles again, and in fact, sell those you own currently before they become mere clubs.

...

Now maybe prices will start to stabilize... ;)

I succeeded despite idiocy....
I picked one up for less than $100 before I even understood what they were!
They are wonderful rifles, and IMO, worth even the currently elevated cost to get one.

Recently SAMCO Global went belly up and was one of the last that advertised K31's. Some wholesaler or several will get Samco's rifles eventually and you will see them on the market again. Keep checking milsurp wholesalers--you won't get them for a song but will probably have to pay about what other WWII era milsurps are going for in good condition.

One of their primary machine guns that was still in service used the GP11.

Rumor has it they still have the tooling and machinery mothballed for gp11 production, and would start it up if they need more. Here's to hoping...

If you can't find a k31, the Schmidt Rubin K11 is just as nice and also accurate as the K31

Aim Surplus still has some of the 1896/11 rifles. Give them a call and see what they think about more carbines coming in.

There were only something like 550,000 K31's ever produced. People tend to get several of them once they see how nice they are. Prices are only going up. If you see a nice one, you better jump on it. Its wishful thinking to believe a wave of them will ever hit the market again.

I bought my K31 up here in Canada about 6 months ago. Wholesale Sports had them on sale for $300 (reg price was $380).....cases of ammo for $300 as well. Wish I'd bought another one before the sale ended.

My K-31 was made in 1941
I kept buying cases of ammo as long as it was on sale. Ended up with 7 cases of it. i've actually reloaded some of the brass. A pain to find proper Berdan primers, but I got 1000 of them.

I really like the rifle for the smoothness of the action and the accuracy. First time out I shot a 1.5", 5-shot group at 100 meters (with 58 year-old eyes). I've since added a Calgary Shooting Centre scope rail to it. works well, centered over the bore and solid attachment.

Keep an eye on your local Armslist, I've seen guys in my local area that obviously didn't know what they had, selling their K 31s for good prices. I also saw one at my local Gander Mountain the other day for $349, but it was pretty beat up.

I remember reading an article a couple of years ago where Samco claimed that they had bought the last shipment of K31 rifles from the Swiss. That is probably that pallet of rifles in the post above. I know that many of these rifles came to dealers from former Swiss soldiers selling them. Since there were only around 500,000 produced, there is a limited number available. I doubt we will see big shipments again, so your best bet is to look for someone selling one locally for a good price.

These surplus guns come in with the tide, and go out with the tide. When the great American President Ronald Reagan was in office, he loosened the surplus importation bans and for the first time since the 1960's, surplus rifles came into the country in quantity. I think the last was 1968 when the Democrats passed the 1968 Gun Control acts. Freedom reigned under President Reagan, I was able to acquire at very low prices rifles that had not been available to the American shooter since the early 60's. However, Swiss rifles were still rare for a long time and in 1997 I was happy to buy a K31 at a gunshow for $350.00. It was a private purchase K31, the Swiss Soldier bought it, took it home, and somehow it got to me. Only four years later in 2001 I was able to buy a nice K31 from the importer for $150.!. Then prices dropped even more, a bud at work purchased scratch and dent K31's for $79.00 apiece!

Then came President Clinton. He and his evil crew did all they could, and of course, so has Obama. Supplies have pretty much dried up again and things will get even worse, far worse, under President HRH Clinton. I predict we won't see cheap surplus rifles again for a long, long time. Maybe never again as these gun banners are posed to take and keep Congress and the Presidency for a long time.
