Ill start off by saying sorry for not having a picture to post yet.
I picked up a new Kahr cm9 a few weeks ago and so far Im impressed with this little pistol. I didnt get a great deal on the gun itself, but I came out ok with what I traded in on it, so it evens out. I have almost made it through the 200 round break in peroid, and so far no malfunctions. Im not super accurate with a handgun, but it is more than combat accurate. I think of it as my baby, baby glock with a slightly better trigger. It probley wont replace my g27 anytime soon, but with its smaller profile I can see it getting carried some this summer. Any pros or cons to this gun (other that capicity)?

If you go to the Kahr forums, they have a sticky on how to prep the magazines to prevent issues - it is well worth the read and doing.

One thing I have noticed is that do NOT get the 7 round mags - they seem to have issues from way too many folks to be trustworthy for a CCW, stick with the 6 rounders. I like mine, but I am still trying to find a grip "condom" - one of those Hogue/Pachmayr type grip sleeves as the grip has a very aggressive checkering pattern I find uncomfortable

This is the case more often than not. People moan about the so-called "Kahr break-in period" but my experience is that they are just as reliable out of the box as any other semi-auto. The only difference is that Kahr actually mentions a break-in period in their instruction manual. My CM9 has been perfectly reliable so far. My understanding is that the 9mm Kahrs are the best of the bunch. Almost anyone that ever has a problem with one is dealing with a .40S&W or .45ACP version.

A agree with this. The 7-rounders with the plastic baseplate are suitable only for range use. On one occasion, I was trying a little rapid-reload drill, only to have the flimsy baseplate explode on insertion into the pistol and spew 9mm cartridges everywhere.

Stick to the 6-round magazines. They are well-made and work great.

Good point on the 7 round mags; save them for the range. I remember, some time ago on the Kahrtalk forum, folks were actually able to exchange the 7s for the 6s via Kahr CS: so even Kahr wasn't happy with them. I know I couldn't make them work.

I think the larger mag changes the flex of the frame just enough to screw up the geometry/physics of the process.

The 7-round mag always functions fine in my CM9. My problem is with the poor design/quality of the plastic baseplate.

A good grip "condom" is a piece of bike inner tubing. I run this on just about all my polymer pistols.

Awesome! I will be doing this to my pm9. The checkering eats up my hands when shooting.

As far as the break in period I had no malfunctions during mine and was using winchester white box. Never had a problem with the 7 rd mag either. A few days ago I saw a post where a guy had just finished talking to kahr and they were swapping out his 7 rd for a 6 rd so I'm pretty sure they're still doing it

I have a PM9 and a P9 and the only difference in the seven round magazines are the plastic baseplates. I converted the seven round PM9 magazines to P9 by that simple change. They still work just fine in the PM9 and I haven't had a problem with either pistol

I don't like the add on rubber pieces to my carry weapons. They tend to "grab" onto any piece of clothing and make purchasing the weapon properly a problem. YMMV

I have carried kahrs for a couple years with my cm9 being CC'd the most. My feeling about shooting many small light weight pistols and break ins is that's its more about a shooter learning how to handle a lite recoiling package and then finding a HP ammo that both you and the handgun like, Not so much about " handgun " break-in.

Clean it well, learn about how it works, lube it up before shooting and then enjoy a great small comact CC. Mine have all easily shot the first 500+ rounds with out extra cleaning needed. Then its time to clean-um up and carry them.

My back up mag has allways been a 8 shot mag for both my cm9 and cw9 and never any issues. I have added a tp series in 40 cal to the group a while back and although the mags are slightly deeper than a 9mm mag it was interesting to find they feed great in the 9mm's TOO. For trial use only of choice.

The CM9 is a very nice gun, I had one and it was flawless. I don't have it anymore just because I replaced it with a CM40, same story there too, very pleased with it.

I think it's a great pocket nine.

When I was looking for a pocket nine, I narrowed my choices down to the Kahr CM9 / PM9 and the Rohrbaugh R9.

I chose the R9 because it is slightly smaller, but I thought the Kahr was a great pistol.

My CM9 is my favorite summer carry gun. My 1911 is just too big to carry when it's hot and muggy, I've done it but it tends to pull my shorts down:what:

I know what you mean. I normally carry a P45, but when it gets really hot my P380 (10 ounces) is pretty comfortable, and still has good sights and a good trigger.

I don't think that is a PM9 in the above pic.

I have 2 CM9's, both have been flawless and break in was a non issue, never had a problem on either straight out of the box.

rhinoh,

I believe that you are correct!! I think that it actually is a PM45 that I traded for a PM9.

Just grabbed a picture from my file... GOOD EYE!

Now I have to get a new photo up!!

I just got a CM9 and took it to the range. I am a decent shooter, and good with pistols, but could barely keep rounds on a 8x11 piece of paper at 10 yards.

What distance are you guys shooting your Kahrs at?

One of the biggest defects on the CM 9 is the mag follower. Tons of reports of them breaking. Both of mine and my buddies broke inside of 200 rounds. They gun seems to still function but Kahr can't seem to fix it. The plastic is just too thin. They will send replacement followers if you call, but my buddies broke again in less than 200 rounds. I put mine in my Carry mag, and continue to use a broken one for the range mag.
Otherwise, it has been flawless with approx 350 rds thru it since early Feb 2013.

I shoot mine between 7 and 50 yards. Bear in mind that some of us are old revolver guys, and the Kahr trigger feels normal to us.

Has anyone else shot your pistol? There may be a problem with it.

I haven't done 50 with it but 25 on the regular. I keep them all within a fist sized circle at that range. I do have to concentrate to do it more with that sight radius. Sights, sights, sights, trigger, sights, sights, trigger, bang......
