Kahr CW9 Accuracy/Consistency Question

I recently purchased a Kahr CW9. To date, I have around 500 flawless rounds through it. Very smooth comfortable trigger and fits my larger than average hands well. At 10 yards, I can hit a 4 inch steel plate about 90% of the time. For those of you with experience with the Kahr, would you consider this decent accuracy for this gun? I ask because I can hit a 3 inch circle nearly 100% of the time at 10 yards with my other 9's (Glock 17, Beretta 92FS, Beretta PX4, Ruger SR9). I know the CW9 is designed as a small concealed carry weapon primarily and is not really in the same class as the others I own. Curious how others get along accuracy wise with their Kahr's.

I usually shoot my Kahrs at targets between 5 and 7 yards away. When I take careful aim, I shoot pretty tight. if I add any speed, the group size will grow to about 3" or so. I'd say you and I are about the same accuracy wise. Do you know where the misses are going, are they consistently going one way or the other?

Try relaxing the joints of the trigger finger to allow for a more perpendicular travel, (to the trigger) all the way through the stroke.

I've found my Kahr CW9 every bit as accurate as my G17/19 or Beretta 92/96. There could be a number of reasons for the disparity in your ability to hit with the smaller gun, but I'd first look at operator technique.

Often folks find the larger guns easier to hit with because there is more to hold onto...a picture of your grip might give us an idea if that is a factor.

Trigger management is usually the largest factor, assuming normal sight alignment. We can get an idea is you'd post a picture of a paper target to show the dispersion of your rounds and maybe your observation of where in the string of fire you are missing. It is really important that you don't try to stage your trigger during the trigger stroke

At 5-7 yards, I'd expect any CW9 to be able to group about 1" and be able to stay on half a 3" X 5" card at 10 yards

If you px4 is a full size version you are comparing the cw9 to a group of handguns in a differnt size and weight class!! Your cw9 is not a target sized pistol in any way, lighter, smaller, DA type trigger and the heavier recoil is affecting your accuracy after a few rounds have been fired.

As a defence pistol is it accurate enough for you ? What more is needed. I have several kahrs for CC. I am not not as accurate with the smaller models as some others I own but not worried about that. There not ment for bulls eye shooting.

marb4: My Wife and Me both carry a CW-9 and have for quite a while. We have never had any problems with either of them. 100% reliable for us. We put Crimson Trace Lazers on both of them. We both like the Sights and the Trigger pull. I shoot mine quite a bit at the range and am really impressed with the accuracy I get, about the same as yours. We like our CW-9`s more every time use them.

I have the Kahr CM9 same as CW9 but smaller. I don't consider the gun a target type gun at all. The CM9 is for up close or more of a belly gun. It is the trigger that throws me off somewhat.

I'm used to Glock and 1911 triggers and the long, though smooth, Kahr trigger causes me to pull my shots unless I go slow and deliberate.

I picked up a CW9 for my girlfriend for Christmas. Shoots great and she likes it. We put a slip on piece of inner tube on the grip because she didn't like the way it was. Shoots it better now.

Accuracy is rather good out to 10 yards. I like it but prefer my Kel-Tec PF9 for pocket carry since its just a bit smaller. Accuracy in my hand is even between pistols.

Lennyjoe reminded me... I put a grip sleeve on all my polymer framed Kahrs because I believe it helps maintain a more solid grip. They're cheap and may be worth a shot. I like the Hogue and Pachmayr because they have a finger bump.

I finally got to put a bunch of rounds through my CW9 last night. I was having accuracy issues as well. I think the combination of the thin grip and the different trigger pull was causing me problems. I went through a few magazines with my Walther P99 with the short SA pull, so that probably didn't help that either.

Update

Got to the range this morning and think I've figured out the problem with my CW9. Its me. I really concentrated on a very slow even trigger pull. Not stacking the trigger but really focusing on the front sight and making the trigger break "surprise" me. I was holding 2 1/2 inch groups at 10 yards very consistently. When I would miss, it was almost always low and I could almost call it before I even saw the impact on the paper. Again, I know this isn't a target pistol and I really can't expect the same level of consistent accuracy compare to my other full size pistols but I do feel better that I know I can hit pretty well with it. Of course in an SD situation I won't be making a very slow even trigger pull but I have every confidence that I can hit an 8 inch circle COM at 5 yards and in without much trouble. I have had a couple of Kahr 9mm pistols and have found both quite accurate. However I wish the company would make a reliable magazine that did not allow the cartridges to pop out on their own, I find that maddening...

gopguy Try to carry your mags in a old knife pouch. I have used a kahr 8 shot mag for my back up for a few years normally top side down in the lower side pocket so many out pants and jeans have. never had a cartidge fall out of the mag. Also keep 6 others loaded all the time. Never had a cartidge try to run away!!

Marb4 now you can work on a pratical modern instinctive or aimed version of point shooting for those quick closer shoots.
