Kahr CW9 or Ruger LCR. I plan on owning both one day. If you guys where to chose one or the other for ccw which would you and why?

The Kahr holds more shots, is easier to shoot, easier to carry, easier to reload, easier to carry said reload and from that barrel length, has more power.

With no hesitation I'd go with the CW9 UNLESS you plan to pocket carry.

I had a CW9 for two years (before I decided to go back to a snubnose), it was a very comfortable pistol to shoot, quite accurate, and nice to carry.

The LCR is still on the large size for pocket carry IMHO. So is the CW9. Since IWB would be my preferred method for both... I would go with the CW9. (More rounds...easier to reload...)

I voted for the CW9 because I just placed one on order last Thursday. It should ship on Tues. Had an opportunity for an LCR a couple of weeks ago and passed.

I voted for the CW9. I love mine. Make sure you put the required 200 shots through it to break it in before making it your carry gun.

I love Rugers, but pocket 9s just seem the perfect carry to me for CCW. They're more compact and have more firepower and horsepower than .38 revolvers and carrying spare reloads is a lot easier for the concealed carrier. I carry a revolver a lot, too, and a speed loader is just a big lump that's a pain to tote. Speed strips are easier, but much, much slower to use if you need one. Spare me the "if you need more'n five, you're a duffus" comments. You just don't know what you're going to run in to on the mean streets.

I don't have a Kahr, prefer my Kel Tec, but I'm sure it's a good gun and I just like the pocket sized 9mm concept regardless of the maker. It offers some good advantages to the revolver IMHO. But, I like revolvers, too. I mean, I consider myself a revolver guy. I just know a better mouse trap when I see it for the purpose of 24/7 personal defense.

a speed loader is just a big lump that's a pain to tote.

Two ways I deal with this.

1. I have a little nylon holder that slips on a belt that holds two speedloaders. Everyone seems to wear so much crap on their belts these days, I doubt it attracts any attention. Speedloaders are readily available.

2. I wear something other than tight jeans and toss it in a pocket. This solution might not be possible in Texas, though.:D

Haven't had a Kahr or an LCR, though, so can't comment about the specific guns.

I wear carpenter's jeans, loose, big pockets. However, toss a speed loader in a pocket and it gets irritating. I could wear a speed loader pouch, but it makes a bigger lump under a T shirt. It would not be recognized by anyone other than maybe an observant cop, but I mean, the 9x19 mag in a knife sheath fits in with Texas fashion rather well. EVERYONE carries a knife and my multitool rides behind the mag in the knife sheath. :D

Yep, jeans, a knife on your belt, a pair of snake boots, and in South Texas you're ready to go dancin'. :D I guess you need a good hat and you might sub Tony Lamas for the snake boots if you just HAVE to. :D

This thing looks interesting (cutaway view):

My double pouch, though, doesn't look like anything, really. It doesn't bulge. Seems like almost every man I see here has a keyboard-style phone and a good-sized folder on his belt, along with a few other things sometimes. Many times, you can't tell what the stuff is -- which is perfect.

OTOH I went hiking on some trails right behind downtown yesterday with a 629 on my hip just to see how it would carry for future, longer hikes. Not even the lycra-clad biker types, male or female, seemed to pay any attention to it.

Something proven vs. something new......I'll take the "something proven", and let YOU beta-test the new plastic revolver.

Besides, I already own a S&W 638, which I use quite effectively both IWB and pocket carry. And I've still been toying with picking up a Kahr in the future for IWB carry......assuming 9mm ammo ever exists in my area again.

Interesting question. I have an LCR and a Khar K9.

It really comes down to revolver vs semi auto or .38 vs 9mm. That is what you are going to get comments about as well since there cannot be more than a handful of people on here that actually have shot both a Khat and LCR.

I will say in a lot of ways I think my khar is an ideal carry auto. I am growing very found of the LCR as well. It points very well for me and just feels good in my hand. If you genuinely plan to get both I would suggest that getting the Khar first would allow prices to go down on the LCR and give it a bit more time to prove its self. I like the LCR but it still needs time to prove its self a reliable and durable weapon.

I personally wouldn't get the cw9 if this is to be a defensive firearm. Although it is much less expensive I would rather pay more and have the option for night sights. That khar will last the rest of your life so the slightly larger initial investment is worth it IMO.

Well, IMHO, you can't really go wrong either way.

ArmedBear, that "pouch" is a pretty good idea, gets half the loader behind the belt, not so much bulge. Hmm, get out my tandy leathercraft kit, I might just make myself one of those. :D I need it to work with a 5 shot speedloader. I carry my 3" 6 shooter .357 occasionally IWB, but I usually have an alloy 5 shooter in a pocket.

flat autos like the Kahr conceal better than revolvers.

Personally I hate to shoot a superlight snubby so try before you buy. My snubby is a steel framed detective special. It is light enough and is easy to shoot well.

You didn't say what you plan on using it for. IE, if it were me I'd want to try the new Ruger, but only if it wasn't to be used for CCW or HD. I'll let the rest of the market test the function of a new weapon for a couple years before I'll bite.

Get the Kahr. The P9 comes with two mags a flush seven and an eight for backup. You can't put nightsights on a CW if that is something you may consider and they only come with one mag. Love my Kahrs. As much as I try to carry a double stack, I just can't with four thin Kahrs to choose from. K40, P40, P9 and PM9.

The LCP

I have an lcp and the things I like about it are it's rounded edges, the nice predictable trigger pull, and it's fired and ejected everytime i've pulled the trigger. It's the easiest gun I've ever tried to conceal carry. If you put it in a pocket, it will come right out unless your hands are too big.

It's very thin and extremely light when loaded. You'll always be able to carry this pistol. It is very accurate and mine has been reliable. If you like the looks and ergonomics of the Kahr - buy it. It's apparently a very good gun.
