I am planning to acquire a Ruger LCR- I will need to trade either a Smith 64 or Ruger p90.. Which one would you trade & why?

Yikes, do you have to trade? I mean, can you save for another 6 months and buy the LCR outright? Can you have a big yard sale to raise the funds?

I ask because I regret most of the trades/sales I've made. If you have any attachment at all, and if you like them even a little, it is highly likely regret will set in at some point.

I've tried to be VERY careful about what I trade or sell. But of the 5 trades/sells I've made in the last 5 or 6 years, I've had solid regret on 2, no regret on 2 and I'm on the fence on another but I'm starting to wish I hadn't sold it as well. The only times I've not regretted it were when I immediately replaced the gun with something similar that I just plain liked better (like my Taurus 94 for a S&W K-22, DUH!, or my Springfield XD9 for a 1911).

If you are dead set on trading, think long and hard about which you may end up regretting the least. Neither gun would be particularly hard to replace, though 64s may take a little more time.

If it was me, I'd keep the 64 simply because I am a revolver nut, and the 64 is a mighty fine revolver.

The one that you shoot the best, you keep. Makes logical sense to me. If you're keeping one more as a safe queen - moot if they've been shot/used much - the Smith.

Ugh! LCR :barf: I had one and the ugly-factor made me get rid of it. Supposedly it is very mechanically sound andit is definitely lightweight and as Jeff Quinn (I think) has said, the axis is right on meaning easy to shoot to target. I just couldn't get over how butt-ugly it was so I got a 640.
As for which to get rid of, you will regret getting rid of either, they are no longer made and they are both quality combat weapons of their day.

That's a heck of a problem to have, but not that hard to figure out. Which gun are you going to get the most use out of?

Actually I would keep both guns and save up for the LCR. LCRs are going to be available for quite some time.

Ruger P90s were considered as being or are target gun quality when it comes to hitting a target at 25 yards. Mas Ayoob did a number of articles on the P90 and why his police department at the time went with them as a issue item. He tested the P90 for gun publications of the time. If yours is a tack driver or near so keep it.

If you are pistol savvy more so than revolver proficient then the Ruger stays. There's something comforting about a .45 ACP bullet for defense.

S&W's 64 is a classic, has ammo versatility, easy manual of arms, user friendly, and has a cartridge that gives a decent level of protection.

Should the 64 be the handgun that you would get the most use and pleasure from then go with it.

For CCW use or as a home gun either will fill the bill.

Is there anyone else who would use either of these guns where you live? Revolvers are something that everyone can learn to use from the git-go.

If you need to make a contact to the body shot during a defense shooting the revolver will normally keep going where a pistol may well be clogged by debris and turn into a one shot only deal.

Heck of a decision to have to make.

Those are two "classics" that you don't see much of anymore.
I have an LCR and it's a great EDC but I don't think its worth either of those two for the value loss you'll take in trade IMHO.

Trading either one of those will net you a big loss, if at all possible bite the
"bullet " and save or try to wait for your income tax return. I learned many many years ago that trading guns is not cost effective, unless you do it privately.

I've traded a few through private parties and both sides walked away very happy. If you do feel the need I'd keep the one that you know makes you smile every time you shoot it and try to sell the other one privately.

A little patience will reward you in the long run. The LCR's are great revolvers but I'm not sure they are worth losing either one of the guns you already own, that's a very personal decision only you will make.

Good luck whatever you decide!!

I'd keep them both.

The P90 has a great reputation and is out of production. It will get harder and harder to replace it as time goes by.

You didn't mention how old your S&W Model 64 is, but is it possible it has the firing pin on the hammer and no internal lock? If so, that design is more desirable than the current production models, and are also hard to come by.

Ruger is making bunches and bunches of LCR's, and will for many years. Chances are also good that since it is a relatively new pistol there will be some problems with the design that Ruger will fix as production continues. Save your money, and the P90 and Model 64, and buy the LCR when you have the cash.

I traded away a P90 and have regretted it just about everyday since. I bought it on the way home from picking up my pistol permit. It was a solid gun that was very easy to shoot. I caught the 1911 bug and thought I'd never really use it. Now I might have to go do some shopping today.

Keep them both, but keep the Ruger if you can only keep one.

I've had a P97 and a 64 so I'd try to keep both, but if I had to sell one the Ruger'd be gone. Few things are better than a K frame S&W. Only get rid of the 64 if you're getting a better K frame for it - Model 10, 13 or 65 for example ;)

The Ruger went to buy a Colt & the 64 went to get a near mint 10. :)

Can't speak to the P90, as I don't own one, but I'm betting it's a pretty good gun.

Of all my vintage S&W revolvers, my 64 is probably my least favorite, yet I still love it dearly and would never get rid of it. It's the most practical of my old S&W's as the stainless finish makes it the one I fuss the least about. It's the one I'm most likely to carry, it's 4 inch barrel make it accurate, yet there are no adj. sights to snag on coats.

If your Smith is a 4" BBL, then the LCR, Model 64 and P90 are all dissimilar enough to make a good collection - not redundant. I'd keep them all. Ask him if he'll take your bicycle in on trade.

I can report that I still have both handguns & really am seriously considering offering up my Schwinn (sp?) as a trade item :)
How come I never thought of that before?

I would have a hard time trading off either of those, but I can say that I would keep the 64 for sure, and I would like to get one when I can save up for it. I have a couple of S&W K frames, and they are just about my favorite guns.

On the other hand, I would like to have a P90. A P90 was the first .45 I ever shot, and it is still one of the three most accurate .45 pistols I have shot.

I would trade my KP90 for an LCR when pigs fly. Put down the single malt & step away!

They're not making the metal framed P series anymore & the P90 (IMO) is as good as they come in a DA/SA .45ACP. (P220 and USP45 owners chime in here ;))

Trading a M64 for an LCR? Seriously?:uhoh:
