Kahr CW9 review

I just purchased a CW9 Kahr to add to my CCH line up. I took it to the range and was just a bit dissapointed. It shot with no feed or eject issues. It shot at 5 yards low and right. I had to keep adjusting my sight picture to correct it. The trigger was long, it was smoth but long. Unlike my Glocks. This trigger pull was something that had to be adjusted for.

Over all it seems like an OK gun. I will have to run some more rounds thorugh it to tell. It may imporve if I get new sights for at least the rear. If I can adjust it out it would help if the point of aim was better. Anyone else have point of aim issues?

If that doesn't help, then let somebody else shoot it and see if the results are the same. My CW9 shoots POA with no adjustments to the rear sight.

Watch the front sight while dryfiring. It most likely is moving just like your target is telling you

No. Kahrs do have longer and slightly heavier triggers than many other guns though. I imagine it is most likely a trigger control issue.

I had a CW9 a while back and had POI issues with it too. I replaced the front and rear sights with a set of Dawsons and cured the problem. I replaced the CW9 with a G19 and had issues with that one too. Again I replaced the sights on that one with Dawsons and cured the problems. I don't work for Dawson but their sights have cured issues on several of my guns.

One other thing. Be conscious of your finger placement on the trigger. It is easy to let your finger go too far to the bottom of the trigger shoe and pull your shots down. If you are shooting the thing with the tip of your finger pad on the trigger, like you would do on a 1911, you could be pushing or pulling the trigger how ever your grip is on the gun. The pull on a Kahr is smooth but LONG and your finger can actually change position as you pull through it.

Owning a CW9 and having helped two friends learn to shoot theirs, I am pretty confident in saying that it isn't the gun, but how you are gripping it and pulling the trigger.

Most new shooters will place their trigger finger too far onto the trigger, because that is how they believe a DAO trigger is supposed to the pulled...it isn't. Try placing the trigger in the middle of the first pad of your finger (behind the nail bed) and press straight back.

That should center your group.

What is causing it to shoot low is likely your squeezing the lower finger of your strong hand as you press the trigger. This can be made even worst if you are locking, or pressing, down with your thumb. If you keep your thumb up while pressing the trigger, your POI should come up

The thing is I shot my brothers CW9 and it was spot on. His is why I bought my gun. I did notice that when I pulled the trigger there is a noticable movemnt in the slide to the frame when the sear is pulling the striker. It moves down about a 64th of an inch. I also take up most of the slack in the trigger and then wait to shoot as a clean break. It just shoots low and to the right. I took off the slide today and used my brass drift punch to tap the rear sight to the left just about a 32nd of an inch. As far as it being low I can adjust the sight picture for that, but the low and right is a bit much.

I dunno...

I had a CW40 and it was the only pistol I had that consistently hit very low. Of course mine also couldn't barely finish a whole magazine in one sitting either.

It sounds like you are staging your trigger, that can easily lead to a jerked shot...causing your low hits.

Your trigger stroke should be smoothly to the rear and not stop once it has started. The Kahr trigger really doesn't have much slack in it

I took the gun back to the range after tapping the rear sight with a drift punch about a sixteenth of an inch. It was right on target. I also adjusted my hold so the non trigger thumb was pointing at the target and the trigger thumb was pointing up. It seemed to put in almost as good as the other guns I was shooting.

castile; My wife and I both carry the CW9. Both of us really like these little guns. They shoot to point of aim for us. It took a few rounds to get use to the trigger, but I liked the sights from the start. I put CRIMSON TRACE LASER SIGHTS on both of them and we like them even better.
