I have been carrying my mk9 every day for about 2 months now. I carry either in right front pkt or iwb. However with it getting to 100 degrees already it is getting too to be wearing thick shorts and a leather belt. The mk9 is easy to carry but the weight does not allow for drawstring shorts. I am a big guy anyway so any extra weight on the beltline pulls down on the shorts as gravity does its thing. Anyway my question is how many of you use the smartcarry method and what are your opinions on it? I know it may be awkward at first but could this be an answer to my delima about way to carry and wear light weight clothes? Like to the pool or waterpark and etc. Please any and all info will be read and appreciated!!!!

I've carried my MK40 in an Action Direct Defender (Belly band) and it works quite well. Only downside is that you have a wide elastic strap around your waist so its not as comfortable as carrying with a holster (but having your shorts fall down and expose your gun is worse).

Nothing conceals as well, and its not all that uncomfortable (although it soaks up some sweat, so you will want to clean it regularly or it'll smell). Also, having the mag pouch is nice.

Another downside is that they tend to stretch out after a while. I used to carry my Steyr M40 in it and I think it stretched it too much, I should probably get a new one (and I'd recommend replacing it every year or two).

I carry a Glock-26 in a SmartCarry - not every day, but frequently. With the Kahr, you should have no problem with printing of the butt. To me, it's more comfortable than an IWB or SOB - and much more comfortable than a bellyband. It's totally concealed & I sometimes forget I have it - it's like a piece of clothing.

You should practice drawing. It's very easy, but you want to make sure you get a solid grip before you draw... the small pistols sometimes sit down too far into the pouch & some depth limit adjustment has to be made. Instructions for this are included.

I can wear with shorts. I'm hefty, so there's some bag to the front of all of my pants... but Charlie, the owner, is slim & carries a full-size 1911 with no trouble. It's a nifty solution. Some people might not like it, but for others it's the answer.

thanks

Guys for the info. That is the kind of info I need. I just recieved my pkt holster today. It is a Don Hume and looks good. I'm not sure yet if it will conceal as good as the cheap uncle Mike's I've been using but I will find out tomorrow. The beelyband sounds good but with my work enviroment and my size it just seems like it would be second to the smartcarry. Not sure yet though, maybe I need both(the wife will love this idea). Anyway thanks again and any more comments are welcomed!!!

I always wear a belt with shorts no matter how hot it is outside. I never wear drawstring shorts unless swimming. They're just, you know, ghey.

And just as a note about thicker belts. Just picked up a 1" belt on clearance for $6 and it feels as stiff as a Bianchi I felt. It makes carrying so much so much better and easier than my normal 3/4" dress belt.

I only wear drawstring shorts at home where there are only a few witnesses.

I picked up some "Hiking" type shorts at Mervyns here in town, they work well with pocket carry because they have an outside velcro pocket over the normal open type pocket. So it covers up any sort of printing well.

' Guess the Geezer here never got the word on perceptions with draw-string shorts. I've worn 'em for years because they are coolest - literally. Shorts that require a belt just seem to make sweating worse, to me anyway.

I recently gave carrying a new PM9 some serious opportunities to be "comfortable" at 4:30 in draw string shorts. But, after about 2 weeks of that, the 12 ounce five-holer went back to being #1.

Some folks often have trouble comprehending how tough it can be trying to work or play hard in Texas' heat and humidity - until they do it for extended periods while concealing guns that weigh a couple of pounds!

It's been a couple of years since putting the 340 on digital scale, 14.9 ounces, IIRC with 5 125 grainers.

PM9 "weigh-in" more recent though and fresh in memory: 19.4 ounces with 6 +1 of 115s. A noticeable difference when so little support.

Or maybe the 14.9 loaded was with 342, carried for a couple years prior. Might need to get loaded weight of 340 confirmed next time I get to the front of the line at the post office ... :D    NOT!!! ;)
