Kahr P45

I was browsing some of the local gun shops recently, looking for the XD I've been planning on buying (can't find one now that I have the money) when one clerk handed me a P45. Looks and feels like a great way to carry 6-8 rounds of .45ACP. but I can't find one to rent or borrow. Anyone have any experience with this model? How reliable are they, and are they pickey eaters? How well does that little frame absorb the recoil of a .45?

I'm sold on the guns. Felt recoil is the same or a little less in the P45 than in my all-stainless Officer's ACP, (perhaps due to the lower barrel height?) and I have yet to experience a FTF.

I whole heartidly second BlueMalibu's comment.

The trigger pull is a tad "longer", and more towards the revolver side
of things, but by the time you finish shooting the 250 to 350 rounds
to break it in - you won't even notice the difference.

Spit'in-distance, or further out - they will put a hurt on sombody.

I've owned four Kahr models with, "zero problems", and with a proper
break-in, you should be good to go.

Sounds good so far. The long trigger pull shouldn't bother me much. I only own DA revolvers right now.
Keep 'em comin'. I'd like to hear the good and the bad, if any.

But seriously, I want a P45 too. Problem is I'm too scared to waste $700 dollars on a defective Kahr again. I had a pm9 that was nothing but trouble so I sold it and I told myself I'd never buy another polymer Kahr.

Someone posted a picture half way down of their P45 with a cracked frame. I just don't think Kahr knows how to do polymer very well. After seeing that, I won't ever buy another Kahr handgun. An mk9 might be the only exception..but not anytime soon. Good luck!

A rare occurance to say the least. That poster never did follow up on any of his Kahr problems.

I I tried very hard to love my P45. The first one had major damage to the polymer slide rail on the right side and also had several FTF and very light primer strikes. Kahr paid shipping and replaced it with a new P45. The second looked perfect, but still had FTF issues from four different magazines. It also upped the number of light primer strikes, so the slide went back to Kahr for evaluation. They lost the slide, and upgraded me to the blackened stainless version at no charge. With he new slide, I was still getting FTF and the slide appeared to be outrunning the magazine. I eventually traded the P45 and $100 for a Glock 30SF.
I'm glad to hear that you guys like yours and are having no problems; I sure wish I could have gotten mine working. BTW, I have an ANIB Comp-Tac C-Tac for the P-45 I'll sell for $50 if anyone wants it. I never carried the pistol, and the holster comes with bag and all documentation. Tony

P45

I've had one for over a year now with about 1000 rounds thru it, mostly low powered reloads, like those seen in the pics. I use the same loads in my 1911's as well. No function problems to date. It has a long but very smooth trigger pull. I have a 12 yard range in my backyard so I can plink whenever the mood strikes me.

I made the holster and use it as my primary carry gun.

I searched all the gun forums and a lot of folks were having problems with the Kahrs which made me hesitatant about buying one. However, it felt so good in my hand, I finally bought one and am glad now that I did.

Kudo's to Kahr

Hadn't fired my P45 for awhile but during yesterdays shoot it had several light primer strikes which took a second strike to ignite. Emailed Kahr tech yesterday evening asking if it might need a new striker spring, or perhaps a new recoil spring. Got a reply this morn and after exchanging a couple of rapid emails, one suggesting it might be Winchester primers as some folks have had probs with WWB, I said I'd hold off and try some Federal primers when I had the chance. To that he offered, and I gladly accepted, a free recoil and striker spring.

I've never had any problems with my P45, shooting mostly reloads, but its gratiflying to get that kind of response. I should also note he offered to take it in and check it out but I don't see thats necessary at this time.

I'm suspecting its my reloads/Winchester primers for which I've had problems with another striker type gun.

You might want to look at the CW45 instead - it is a more affordable version, and costs much less than the P45. Davidson's has them on sale through the end of the month for as little as $395.82 depending on which FFL you pick for the transfer.

As with most handguns, once you've decided on a flavor... a little patience usually brings opportunity your way. A Diamond Black P9 with Novaks will be delivered here on Thursday that I picked up for $565.

I'll go against the grain. Had one, sold it to pick-up a G36 and have not looked back. It felt good in my hand to start with, but the trigger was really looonnnggg compared to my other guns. I shot it ok, but not near as good as the 36. I initially had trigger reset issues that Kahr took care of it rather quickly. The finish quality was ok, but a little rough in some spots. These never functionally an issue. I changed the sights which was an ordeal. The rear dovetail was not cut the same from slide to slide. I ordered on set of Novak sights supposedly for the P45 from Kahr and they just slipped through. Sent those back and contacted Novak directly. They had me ship them the slide because they had been down this road before with Kahr. The had to basically custom fit a rear sight to the dovetail. This is not a big deal, but does speak to some QC issues in Kahr's manufacturing process. I understand their metal frame pistol are better. Just my experience.

Finally, no FTF's

My P45 is almost new, only about 200, 250 rounds through it, and I have had alot of FTF's, about 10 to 15, so I was getting real iffy about the gun. I love everything about it except that. I mine as well have a pocklet full of rocks. Well today I went to the range, and shot about 50 rounds, and it worked perfectly. I know they say 200 round break in, so maybe they're right. It fed, fired, and ejected each case perfectly. I feel much better about it now. Maybe patience and persistence has paid off. Hope this helps.

PM45

I would want the PM45 kahr in the new finsih of black dlc slide. awsome guns, All of mine go bang every time. My PM9 with 17,800 rounds rides in my front pocket 24/7 and has never missed a beat...

Jocko, you have more of something than I do. I'm not anti 45 at all, I love them, but a PM45 is not enough grip for me, unless you get an extension for the grip, of course carrying it would be so easy, almost anywhere. I was real happy yesterday when I left the range, as my P45 worked perfectly. As I stated in a earlier post, I have had FTF's aIot, but after 200 break in, it finally did what I have been expecting since buying it. I hear so many people talking about the long trigger pull, but I like that. It allows you to carry it in condition 1, requiring a long pull to fire, which is just like carrying a revolver. Hard to accidentally discharge it. If you get the PM45, I wanna here about it. Happy hunting.
