Buy a can of bear spray. If you see a bear, make the proverbial cloud of bear spray and then shoot your 9 mm rounds (FMJ only) THROUGH the bear spray. This way, the bullets become wet with bear spray and will sting the bear more and the bear will certainly be discouraged. I know this because once I heard a guy from Texas tell me about bear encounters, so I'm pretty sure it's fact.
