Kahr PM9 multiple failures to feed today

I bought a new Kahr PM9 a few months ago. I love it. Except for a couple of ammo issues and user-induced problems, the gun has been 100% reliable...until today. All rounds fired bfore today were 115gr (either WWB or Speer Gold Dots). I have always cleaned and lubed the gun within hours of firing it.

I was testing out some new ammo all 124 gr, all FMJ- Ficcochi, Speer Lawman, and Winchester Ranger. By my count, today I had 9 failures to feed in 150 rounds.

Every single one was exactly the same - the nose of the bullet got lodged between the feed ramp and the next round in the magazine. I was able to drop the mag every time and the lodged bullet came out along with the magazine.

I came home and inspected the feed ramp and everything looked normal (although I am a novice when it comes to diagnosing these kinds of issues). I cleaned the heck out of the gun and paid lots of attention to the feed ramp.

I plan on shooting again on Saturday to see if the problem persists. Any ideas on what might have caused this issue? Any ideas to fix it?

Kidding aside, I would guess it's a bad magazine.

Hmm...now that I think about it, I think each failure may have been with the 7 round magazine and not the 6 rounder. I'll test out the theory on Saturday.

Check the follower in the mag. I have seen a Kahr follower snap off on the side preventing it from moving up the mag correctly.

Had you cleaned the mag prior to shooting?
Is the tube of the 7 round mag longer?
Are you over-inserting it when you reload?

Since the gun is new, Kahr should stand behind their product.

might be worth a call to Kahr to have the mag shipped back in. Definitely sounds like a magazine issue.

If you have had the magazines apart there is a 3 out of 4 chance the spring is not re-assembled correctly.
Look at the parts section for the PM9 of Kahr's website for the correct spring orientation.

I have not shot 124gr ammo from a Kahr PM9, only 115s.
It may just the ammo but as Atticum said, the mag is the 1st place to look for trouble.

I've found that dis-assembly/cleaning/lubing of even new mags avoids a lot of problems.
I lube with cheap, CRC silicon spray lube, bought at WallyWorld, that dries in seconds, and does not attract dirt.

Are we talking about both mags, same problem?

I have a PM9 and P380 and neither like Fiocchi FMJ. Fiocchi works well for me except for the Kahrs.

Try some +p ammo or ammo known to be hotter. Kahrs hate weak ammo.

Try a different mag, check the follower.

I saw this in a CW .40...it performed all kinds of mysterious slide lock backs, FTF, FTE, stovepipes, etc. The magazine followers were brittle and snapped off on the side, but the feed ramp itself is at an extreme angle and I think if the mag is any less than absolutely perfect, the rounds just slam into it. Check the mags and if it doesn't help, send it back to Kahr.

I just disassembled and cleaned the mags. Let's see how it goes tomorrow morning!

Happened again today. Both magazines. Warranty ticket opened with Kahr. We'll see what they say.

Anyone have any experience with Kahr's return policies?

You may be able to save some money by changing out your mag springs with stronger ones from Wolff and possibly a new recoil spring. Kahr suggests the recoil spring be changed after 1000-1500 rounds. Springs are cheap, much cheaper than shipping a gun.

Also, this type of misfeed is almost alway corrected by "tapping" the mag base.

If all of the misfeeds were the first round, the question is; were you loading according to the manual. If the rounds misfeeding were in the middle of the mag, then that's another story. What position in the mag were the problem rounds?

The misfeeds were never the first rounds, usually 3rd or 4th, so about mid way. Per the Kahr manual, I ALWAYS load the first round using the slide lock as they say racking it normally could cause misfeeds.
