I am looking at purchasing my first 9mm. I have .40's, .45's and .357's but I am looking at going with a good pocket pistol for backup. I want something that is fairly accurate and light at the same time. I have seen several discussions on her but I am wondering which is the best way to go. I am looking at the Kahr PM9 or the Kel-Tech PF-9. I know there is little difference in weight. The Kel-Tec is about 4 oz lighter loaded but is it as accurate as the Kahr? I know of course there is a major price difference as well. Just would like some feedback. Has anyone shot the Kel-Tec PF-9? Thanks!

KT's are always a crap shoot. Sometimes they work fine and sometimes they require a trip or two back to KT for repair. Of course, I have a Kahr P9 and it also required a trip back to Kahr to fix a problem when it was brand new.

Another thing to consider is that the PF9 is a brand new gun that just recently hit the market. You may want to wait a year or so for KT to get the bugs worked out before buying one.

I have been banging away with my PF-9 for a month now and have had zero problems.

The PM9 is a fine pistol and well worth the cost and I would say the same for the PF-9.

There were some problems with the first 100 PF-9 guns, but the problems appear to have been corrected on those being produced now.

If you decide to get a PF-9, just be sure it has a serial number of at least 150 or higher.

I understand that the Kahr has fewer repairs and is more reliable (per local gunshop).

From the research ive done...both the PM9 and the PF9 are not quite as reliable outof the box as others like Glock. The PM9, while hearing some stories of unreliability, seems slightly less likely to suffer problems out of the box.

But when I take into consideration the MUCH lower price of a Kel Tec, I'd go with the Kel tec. I'd also recommend shooting it as extensively as you can so you can break it in and test it thoroughly before depending on it with your life. That way KT can do any factory repair needed. I'd recomment the same for the PM9 also.

My $.02

My P11 is to big for my pant pockets, but fits in the inside pocket of my leather coat, just fine. Should use a holster. The smaller P3AT & P32, will fit in any pocket.:)

I have the Keltec P32, it goes everywhere with me in my front pocket. If I were to go to a 9mm it would be the Kahr PM9. I know several people who have them and swear by them. Both need break in periods.

Thanks, George

freebird: thanks for all the input. are the pf-9's small enough for your pocket or would the p-3at .380 be a better choice?
The P-3AT will fit in any pocket.
The PF-9 will fit in some pockets, but not all.

Here is a size comparison of my PF-9 and my P-3AT.
