was trying to decide what edc gun to buy between the kel-tec pf-9 and the glock 26. i have heard that both are very good guns, but i have also heard that the kel-tec pf-9 has a harsher recoil than the glock. just looking for some more opinions out there.

thanks, wolfman90

I at one time thought about either gun. While they both fill the CC role, they are still different guns. The G26 is a double stack, and bulkier, while the Kel-Tec has lower capacity and well... isn't a Glock>

I ended up with a G27 because they were out of the 26, and I can still run 9mm out of it if I get a new barrel. I've no experience with the Kel-Tecs, but wouldn't have a problem with getting one. Just make sure you run a sufficient ammount of ammo down whatever you get.

To me, the comparison is apples and oranges. I think the Kel-Tec would be more comparable to a Kahr.

If you never want the gun to fail, get the Glock.

If you never want the PF9 to fail, load it with powerballs.

I think it's going to be a question of your intended use for the gun. A pf-9 is great for it's intended role, a highly concealable gun that packs a larger caliber than usual for that size. It's not a good choice for a range gun or home defense when compared to a Glock 26.

Personally I go with a Keltec p3at as a pocket gun with A G26 as a carry, home defense, range gun. It is a transformer and can go from subcompact/compact/full size with a magazine change. It gives me my defensive shooting practice 99% of the time with the same gun, trigger, sights and point of impact and just use my KT to stay proficient. I also doesn't mess up my other handguns with slide wear and dings.

A Glock 26 also fits my hand nicest of all the models and with the double spring system it's recoil is very pleasant. I'll shoot it all day long and be good out to the 25 yard lane. They are accurate to farther out but that is the farthest my range goes.

To summarize, if it's going to be your only gun then get the Glock but if you already have a suitable carry/range gun then the pf-9 is good for concealed carry. If you don't mind used then you could do both. Granted I got mine before the election craze(Sep. 08) but I was able to find a trade in G26 and P3AT for about $625 total. Both were in great shape.

It depends on what you are looking for. The Glock has a higher capacity but it is about 7oz. heavyer than the pf-9. Personally, I would get the Glock 26 or, if I was looking for better concealability, I would look at the P3AT or something similar.

Different Animals

It seems to me that a more even comparison would be had by putting the Glock 26 up agains the Kel-Tec P11.

The Glock is still bigger, but not by as much.

The PF9 is a pocket pistol. Very concealable. I would have a real problem with the PF9 because of the short grip. I need a longer grip because my third finger doesn't hold it properly (knuckle damage).

Another pistol in that sub-compact class is the Taurus Millennium Pro PT111. Bigger than the K-T P11, but with enough grip that I can shoot it well.

The G26 and PT111 are the same size (see comparison here), but the PT111 is closer to the PF9 in price.

From available data, I'd say they're all good guns. Glock will have the better trigger. PF9 will hide better. P11 is in between, has more capacity. PT111 has a self-resetting trigger = double strike/second chance capability.

If you are interested in better trigger and slim, you should also check out the Taurus 709 slim 7+1 9mm under 1" thick. Also has the self-resting trigger, if you like the Glock safe action trigger this has a similar design.

Sorry this might now be allowed but the answer is D. None of the above. I would trust my life with any of those, go with a XD9sc had one put around a 1000 rounds through it no problems at all

The KTs all have crap triggers, I shoot low with ever one I've owned. To their credit, they have all ran 100% for me, except for the broken ejector my P11 suffered. The Glock will last forever, and at least for me, shoots to POA. The KTs, have bad triggers, shoot low for me, wear quickly, but run like a champ. Shoot both if you can, get the one you shoot best:)

What he said

I have both. The Kel-tec is a Kia and the Glock is a Toyota. Both will get you there, but the Glock is much more solid and is a true fighting handgun.

I was singing the PF9's praises a little more before mine malfunctioned - requiring a return to the manufacturer.

By the way, there's nothing wrong with the Kia. It just prolly won't hold up as long as the Toyota.

BTW once I got my PF9, I forgot my P3AT existed.

I like my PF9 it is much more conceilable than the glock, but dosent have the reputation of glock. i love glocks personally, but for conceilment id take the PF9

As others have posted the answer to this question would vary based on the intended use for the pistol. For my way of thinking the only real world application for the PF-9 is deep concealment and, for this purpose, it is certainly one of the better choices available on the market. For most any other application the Glock seems to me to be a better choice.

I've owned and carried both. The PF-9 is much more concealable (and is my current summer EDC). But the Glock is more shootable.

Both are good guns. My PF-9 has over 1,000 rounds through it with no problems so far. My Glock 26 had some FTE issues during its first 1,000 rounds. Test either one for reliability. Any gun can fail.

oh my, no comparison. Glock all the way, even though it is bigger, IT WILL WORK WHEN NEEDED..

I saw this thread and thought it would be a good spot to ask is 535 high for a OD green Glock 26 new? thanks

If you buy a PF9..make sure it is one of the newer built models with a metal mag catch....
These will have all of the updates...
I have an early PF9 and it has been reliable, I live close to the KT factory, and I have had mine updated, and functions great...
Usually I carry my P3at wherever I go...

The Glock is a winner proven by many millions of staunch supporters and long-time success.

Don't give the Kel or any other brand X a second thought.

Gotta agree with the folks on here who have gone with the G-26. Another plus is that it will accept ALL the other GLOCK magazines; it's own, the G-19's, G-17's, plus twos, and the G-18's 33 rounder.

If you want really small, reliable and well made in 9mm... Kahr PM9 for the win!
