Kahr PM9 recoil??

It has a lot less than you might think. Much less than a J-frame in .38sp +P. I find it enjoyable to shoot. 9mm+P loads in it are a handful, but not uncontrollable. I love my PM9, it's my go to pocket gun.

I guess it's all in what you're comparing to. Compared to my normal carry gun (P229/9mm) the Kahr is no fun to shoot but compared to a small .38 or .357 mag I can see where it'd be a pleasure to shoot.

I shoot a lot of different pistols - including a very small .45 Taurus PT 145 Millenium Pro SC. Now that is painful shoot.

I have a 3" barrel S&W .357 mag - it's not too bad.

The Ruger LCP is also worse than the Kahr PM9 to shoot, in my opinion.

The only thing that I did to the PM9 is put a Handall Hogue rubber grip wrap which helps get a better griip on it. But I frequently put 150 rounds through it at a time. I can't do that with the PT 145 nor with the LC9 nor the S&W 36. My P64 Makarov has a bite to it. It's a heavy pistol but still is just a wee bit uncomfortable. It's more the overall design of the pistol versus something of a more recent design.

I have a Glock G19 that compresses my middle finger due to the finger grooves. It just doesn't fit my hand well so I give the Kahr the nod over that pistol also if I were to shoot 3 boxes of 9mm....

I have a Sig 229 in .40 S&W. I put the original grips back on it. I had put rubber grips on it but again - the finger grooves compressed my middle finger where it wasn't comfortable to shoot. I must have a big middle finger....

Just some observations....

Once I realized that my PM9 was destined for IWB carry, I went with a Walther PPS instead. It's every bit as thin as a PM9, if not thinner--and it's far, far nicer to shoot.
I agree with that as well.

If it's going to be an IWB gun then even a Glock 26 or .40 S&W Glock 27 will fill that role much better. It would be easier to shoot well and hold a few more rounds too.

My PM9 is much easier to shoot than any of my j-frames ever were and is less punishing with comparably powered ammo. On the other hand my S&W 637 is very accurate and easy to shoot with Corbon 110 gr. DPX.

I like my PM9 and I carry it everywhere. It hides extremely well even in a pocket. Believe me, my preference would be to carry my Glock 29 10mm IWB or OWB but when you work and live around a lot of antis and sheep, stealthiness is a virtue unto itself.

The Ruger LCP is also worse than the Kahr PM9 to shoot, in my opinion.

My feelings as well. This is why I sold my LCP and replaced it's pocket duty with my PM9. I also enjoy being freed from having to buy .380 ammo.

I carry my PM9 daily and

don't find the recoil to be particularly harsh. I shoot the gun monthly to make sure it is functioning properly. This is my favorite carry pistol. My initial purchase for concealed carry was a scandium j-frame S&W 340PD, which I recently traded for a S&W E Series 1911, round butt, two tone, scandium. The 340PD was absolutely brutal to shoot whether using 357 mag loads or 38+P, and as a result I rarely shot or carried the gun.

I owned a PM9 for a while and was amazed at what a soft shooter it was.

I feel the same way (still own mine though) about the little gun. I was shocked the first time out with it....just no recoil (for me) at all. Love 'em.

The PM9 is a pussycat compared to any of the six j-frames I have owned. I have put 150 rounds through mine in a range session, and a number of them were +p and +p+ rounds.

I carried my PM9 every day for 3 1/2 years, so will readily admit to a bias.

However, I did not get there in a vaccuum. I have owned a fair number of quality 9mm pistols, including Glocks, XDs, Rugers, HK P7s and EMPs (several of each). And a number of "lesser" pistols (are you listening, Kel-Tec fans?)

All of them are gone. The PM9 is still here. I no longer carry it regularly, but it's not going anywhere, because I'm not getting any younger...and I may one day revert to pocket carrying a small, lightweight, accurate, reliable 9mm.

I can NEVER understand how people have trouble pocket carrying a Kahr PM9! Too fat? Too top heavy? Um......okay. I routinely pocket carry my PM9 in everything from loose fitting Levis, tighter Wranglers, dress slacks, khakis, lightweight REI shorts, and even Old Navy board shorts (with small pockets). And I'm not a big dude, 5' 10" and 220 lbs (kinda fat right now :banghead:), so if I can do it, YOU can do it.

Strikefire,I have been carrying my PM9 back and forth from work to home wearing light work slacks and in pants of this nature it feels like a bowling ball in your right pocket.
In the cargo pockets of my shorts it's perfectly at home and the same in my Wrangler jeans.
So yet again starting next week while traveling back and forth to work in said uniform pants it will be the micro 380 in a pocket holster.

147grn subsonic GDHP kicks more than a P228 / slightly more than a G26... However, still plenty controllable. Not what I reach for to target shoot at 25-40 yards, but had no issue putting 100-150 through per range visit (to break in).

Person naly I can tolerate the recoil of my Kahr PM-9 much better than I can my S&W 642. As an aside it is also much more accurate than the 642.
