I've got an MK9 Elite '98, but am thinking of switching to a PM9. Comments from those who have done so? Is the weight savings worth it? Does Kahr have the bugs worked out of the polymer frame now? Also, can MK9 magazines be used in a PM9?

Thanks for your input!

From what I've been able to ascertain, problems still pop up with Kahr polymer frames, particularly PM-series guns. Some report problems with the slide not going fully into battery after chambering. I have a PM and also have an MK. I strongly recommend that you do not trade or sell the MK for the PM. You'll get beaten down badly on it and you may end up with a gun that has to make multiple trips back to Kahr. If you want to have both, fine, get the PM, but you will be sorry if you get rid of that MK. Mags are the same. In my opinion the weight savings isn't worth it.

No problems to report with my P9 Covert, after 500-600 rounds. Flawless and never a failure of any sort. I also do not feel the weight or barrel length savings are worth going with the PM9.

I have had a PM9 for about a year now. I am extremely please with it. No problems at all.

Because of the small size and light weight I carry I a lot more than before I purchased it.

I have a Glock 27 that is just too large and heavy for pocket carry. I also had a Colt Pocket 9 that was just too heavy for pocket carry and the trigger was quit heavy though it did shoot well.

Suggest you check the Kahr forum on pistolsmith:

I carry it in my right front pocket in a Hedley Holster that I like.

I live on the Texas Gulf Coast and ware shorts and knit shirts a lot of the year. Pocket carry is the only practical method of carry for me.

Good Luck

I'm uber-happy with my P9 Covert. I think I have very close to 900 rounds of 124 Gr +P Gold Dots, 7 rounds of 127 +P+ Rangers and 20 rounds of CorBon 115 +P CorBons through her with not a single failure along with between 300 and 400 rounds of Winchester and S&B ball. Very nice gun, comfortable, reliable and very accurate for a small gun. Carries like nothing in one of two High Noon tuckable IWB holsters. It would be all but impossible to take mine away from me though I'd like to pick up a TP9.

I've shot several Kahrs including two different PM9s and have almost always been very impressed with them. I don't believe I've ever shot a small all-steel Kahr though.

As for barrel lengths, I'm not going to pocket-carry a Kahr as I have a KelTec for that purpose and if it's on my hip, I'd rather have a 3.5" or even a 4" barrel. It's only going to make it 1% more difficult to carry or conceal on the hip and I'd rather have the higher velocity. If I were wanting to primarily carry in the pocket, I'd probably go for the PM9.

If you already have a known reliable gun, if it's at all possible, I'd really try buy the PM9 and have both for a short time. If it is an even trade or something like that, I'd want to put at least 100 rounds of carry ammo through it before trading off my known-good gun for an unknown one.

I used to have an MK40 and sold it with the intention of replacing it with an MK9. I ended up getting a PM9 instead. My PM9 has been a great gun. The only problem I've ever had with it was in the first 100 rounds, it didn't go fully into battery with 2 rounds. The problem was solved in both cases with a light tap on the back of the slide. Since then, it's been flawless with over 800 rounds through it so far. It has fed and fired every hollow point I've tried in it. I've had no frame warping or unusual wear of any kind. A friend of mine also has a PM9 which has been perfect so far (he's put about 500 rounds through his).

I agree with those who recommend keeping your reliable MK9 until you know for sure if the PM will be reliable. I'm sure Kahr still puts out a few problematic PM guns, but if you get a good one, you'll be happy.

I would say the weight savings are worth it, especially if you're planning to pocket carry. With belt carry it probably won't make much difference.

I had a P9 that made three trips back to Kahr....

Finally had them swap me a MK9 elite

Much better....

YMMV, but I was so torqued by the third return that it will be quite some time before I trust one of their polymer frames.
