Hi:

I just bought a used Kahr P9 from a dealer who took it back in trade. He told me that Kahr would honor the lifetime warranty, and I'm wondering if people know whether that's true. Does the lifetime warranty apply only to the original owner, or is it on the firearm itself? As a practical matter, even if there's a restriction will Kahr uphold a lifetime warranty for secondary owners?

From what I remember there is supposed to be a warranty card in the box. The warranty is nontransferable, so if the card wasn't sent in then you can mail it and you get the warranty. But if the card was mailed in by the previous owner then technically you don't have a warranty. But in this industry most of the time the manufacturer will take care of you if there's a serious problem. But I don't know if I'd take the chance or not, personally. Check to see if the warranty card is in the box.

Good luck!

I asked Kahr about this some time ago. Unless something has changed, no, they will not honor the lifetime warranty. It applies to the original purchaser only. They do, however, have a one year warranty when you buy them used.

I once sent my mk9 in for a problem I was having and was never asked for any warranty information. I was not the original owner and there was no warranty card with the gun when I bought it. They took care of my problem at no cost to me, I had expected a charge so I used my "saved" money to have them install nightsights:D .......tom

Well, I'm still a bit confused. My reason for asking is that I need to post a response on gunbroker, and am just not sure how to respond if I've been misinformed. There was a warranty card with the gun, but I'm not sure that means much since I never use the card to register for warranties myself. I usually just do it over the internet. I've already done that with this gun, on the assumption that the previous owner never bothered, but I have no way of knowing whether that's true. I'm in a bit of a quandary, because the dealer knows I'm not the first owner, and also probably assumes that the previous owner is the registered warranty holder.

Maybe I'll just go ahead and send in the warranty card, and because it's "physical" assume that it will simply supercede any previous registration.

It appears that I was misled on two counts. Prior to buying the gun I was concerned about whether or not this was from one of the early model years of the P9 when it had significant manufacturing problems, and I was also concerned about whether the used item would be covered under warranty. I got the following response from the seller:

"this is a later model less than a year old. i sold it new and then got it back as a trade in. kahr will honor the warranty for life."

Well, it now appears that the gun was actually manufactured in 2001 so it is subject to some of the early quality control problems, and to make matters worse it apparently isn't covered under the lifetime warranty program (although they might waive that at their discretion). Any ideas, besides posting negative feedback about this seller, about how to make sure there are no looming quality problems with the weapon, or if there are how to get them fixed before they manifest?

I looked at this sellers feedback before trusting him, and it all appeared to be good, so now I question whether the feedback isn't excessively inflated. The fellow clearly, and probably deliberately, misled me.

Kahr Service

I'm going to be getting a MK40 soon, and I inquired with Kahr Customer Service about having them 'go over' the pistol to make sure all is well. Their reply indicated that the only costs would be for return shipping @ $15.

Don't know if that's what you were after, but from what I've experienced with Kahr, HK, Beretta and Colt, they're going out of their way to make sure that their product functions like is should - and this includes taking care of recalls for owners #2 and beyond.

If the age of the gun and the warranty issues are dealbreakers for you, tell the seller he gave you bad info. and you want to return the gun. If he says no, then post negative feedback.

Interestingly I haven't heard squat from the seller since I brought to his attention the fact that he had misinformed me about both the age of the gun and the Kahr warranty policy. The fact is that, although he probably was misleading about the warranty there's still a chance that Kahr might honor it on general principles. But there's no excuse whatsoever for misleading me about the age of the gun. That was a critical piece of information, given the history of Kahr manufacturing. By the way, just in case you run across him, the seller was:

Joe Miller, at

MILLER'S SPORTING GOODS
in
MARCUS HOOK, PA

I'm currently trying to find information on the forum which well tell me how to check to see if this might be one of the problem frames. There is also no metal in the slide slots of the plastic section, although there are metal strips on the front of the frame area, which the slide rides on top of. This may be standard with the Kahr P9. I haven't actually seen any disassembled, other than this one.
