I'm hunting South Dakota and Nebraska this year . While looking at airplane tickets I see flying into Kansas gives me some better options (direct flight, rental car availability) compared to Rapid City airport. It occurred to me that if I'm in Kansas'there might be a good opportunity to sneak in an extra 2 or 3 days for hunting there. Anyone hunting public land there ? Is there one section of the state that's better ? Any suggestions welcomed.

KS has lots of Walk In Hunting Areas (WIHA) and during the week a lot of it isn't crowded. The majority is in the northern half of the state, but there's a lot of it. Do your due research, map recons and Google Earth, depending on time of the year, especially now, you could be headed for a harvested wheat field. Good news is, turkey's are pretty much everywhere now in the state, but not so hot in the SW.

I shoot one every year on a friends place, but I'm not really what I'd call a turkey hunter.
