Hello, my son is after a karambit knife right now. Can someone give me a recomendation on where to buy one (in stock)? I got burned on Amazon on an item (not knife) shipping from china, so I want to find one shipping from USA. And a decent model.

Thanks!

A karambit is a pretty personal, and unique knife. The position of the thumb break, blade length, and the ring diameter and position, are all personal choices. There is also the choice of folding or fixed. The SCHRADE Tactical KARAMBIT , and the Mtech karambit are good starters, good steel at a good entry level price. After he works with it, he can make some more advanced and personal preference decisions. Hope this helps.

any experience with elemental knives.com?

No sir. The design looks good, I don't know about the steel/edge retaining capabilities. Some of the stainless is hard to keep sharp.

Some of the semi custom knifes use a carbon steel, and the curve radius isn't so tight, allowing a faster draw cut.

Your son should really handle a few and pick one out. The fit of the thing is important and far too many have too short a grip, too small a hole or too large.

As to elemental knives...no.

We haven't asked what your budget is for this and that will help us help you. Having been collecting knives for nearly 50 years it is important to know what you can afford.

Good points. A blunt trainer knife that approximates his choice of knife is a good idea, as well as an instructor or instructional video. Be aware of all carry laws in your location.

Considering how many grown men I know, who have been "bitten" by their karambits, I am not sure I would want to recommend any karambit to be given to a kid.

Having said that, I bought my late-teen nephew a 5.11 folding karambit, with his mother's consent. I was very thorough in explaining that karambits are extended and retracted, NOT spun.

I know this thread is kind of old, and you've probably found what you'e looking for by now, but....

I just ended up with an Ontario EOD Fixed Blade Karambit. I' happy with it and could give ya better details, if you're still karambit shopping.

Just as the person before this pointed out..this is a little late to the party.BUT Karambit knives are so different than most knives it is a good idea to see if you have anyone schools teaching basic knife skills with karambit..
