So I have a friend that is not a gun crank and so has only the traditional .22 rifle for plinking and a shotgun for HD and the thought or memory of hunting as a youth. They want a "safe" bolted to the floor and wall, but have only two long guns.

In the way back outfits like Stack On had simple steel "safes" with no fire protection and key locks that were sized perfect for such needs. Not pre 1972 Fort Knox Gold depository but sufficient to keep out the casual home breaker or curious kids.

It seems now that no one is advertising anything smaller than an eight gun safe and most have electronic locks rather than a simple key that can live on the main house hold key ring always in Dad's Pocket or night stand.

Anyone one know of an outfit that offers a gunsafe that does not take up a whole closet?

This was my first safe when I got into shooting and only had a couple long guns.

I outgrew it relatively quickly and sold it to a coworker. It definitely needs to be bolted to the wall or floor, isn't the most stable otherwise with how small its footprint is. The keyhole can be kind of hard to pick up with the dark color of the safe, I used gold fingernail polish (matches the trim of the door) to paint a rectangle around it to make it easier to see.

It's not a true "safe" by any means, but it definitely is heavier duty than your run of the mill gun cabinet.

This is likely as secure as the stack on stuff I have seen (made from 16 ga or about .060” sheetmetal) and only a 12x12 foot print.

This looks to be a cheaper place to get the stack on (18ga steel, .047” thick about the same as a spark plug gap.)

Couldn’t find what the American furniture one was made from but it weighs less than half of what the 18 ga stack on does.

Well the rule of thumb is to take the number of long guns you have and buy a safe with double the capacity of your number of long guns. It’s a valid rule. So your friend at minimum needs a four gun safe. With that in mind an eight gun safe isn’t extravagant.

You can also prevail upon your friend to let you use the extra space to store the small but super high quality shrunken head and blow gun collection I’ve been told you have.

The Stack On cabinets (not safes) are inexpensive enough that it's going to be hard to beat the value even if they're a little larger than what's needed for two long-guns. They could just use the extra space for ammo, cleaning supplies, cleaning rod, soft travel cases and optics - binoculars, spotting scopes, rangefinders. I picked up my Stack-On at TSC to save on shipping.

There are smaller cabinets. One of the best would be a Fort Knox, but you can search the internet for these specific terms (or click on the links):

Fort Knox Shotgun Safe PB6 Security Box
AMSEC DV652 Defense Vault Under The Bed Gun Safe
SecureIt Tactical - FAST Box Model 47 - Hidden Gun Safe
Hornady RAPiD Safe AR Locker RFID - RAPiD Safe AR Locker RFID
Barska Quick Access Biometric Rifle Safe
Stack-On Home Defense Auto Low Profile Safe with Biometric Lock SHD-AOLP-BG-B

The Fort Knox is the best because it has a mechanical simplex lock that is utterly dependable. Everything else is going to have an electronic lock that's a gamble.

The Stack-on cabinets aren't bad for the money but I suggest buying something a little larger and heavier. Maybe a small size Liberty Safe or a Sports Afield Safe instead. A home safe not only safeguards our firearms but can be used to store important papers, and valuables too.

I agree on the idea of getting a cabinet or safe that will hold twice if not more than what we initially need it for. Somehow, firearms have a tendency to breed like rabbits inside a safe.:)

Liberty rsc 12 gun.
Really holds about 8.
Couple hundred pounds and fire rated.

If only using it for a couple long guns, have room for important documents.

Is not a safe, but is sold with many thinking it is. Bit beefier than the sheetmetal Stackon 150 dollar stuff.

Think retail was in mid 5's. Got one on clearance, dial lock. Out the door for 370 maybe. Was yrs ago.

Proly get another one 24 gun. Keep the little one.

Safes kinda suck, as you ding stuff up and then theres moisture. I dont run a rod, change out rechargeable units. Have one redone and in plastic bag waiting.

Dial, not keypad
