I finally practiced what I'd preached and picked up a P-11. One of my main reasons, aside from reliability & bang for the buck is that it can it can take S&W 69XX/59XX mags. (12+1 & a spare) Has anyone used stock S&W mags in these little guys?

I've read somewhere that the mag's spring needs to stronger due to the faster cycling rate of the P-11. Is this true?

I use a 5906 mag in my p-11. No problems with it. It is my back-up mag. That gives me a half box(26) of ammo at my disposal. Never heard anything about needing a stronger mag spring. Maybe Rcmodel will chime in here. You might go to KTOG.org and hit the search button for a definitive answer.

I have a P11 & picked up a used 5906 magazine cheap to use with it. when I tried it out cycling by hand at home it worked fine. When I took it out & shot it it didn't. The experts at KTOG told me I needed to go to Wolff & get a +5% spring for it & then it would work fine. I haven't ever gotten around to following up on it. I have 2 of the 10 round magazines so it would just be another spare but I do like the idea of having the smaller mag for carry & higher cap for a reload.

I'm ordering a few +10% and +5% springs from Wolf and test them out. I won't have a chance to go to the range until next weekend, but I will definitely post an update on the P-11 with the +10% springs in the OEM 15 round S&W mags and the Mec Gar 17.

Update on P11 and 5906/6906 mags...

I finally took some time and swapped out springs in several magazines and went to the range with the P11.

- Kel Tec OEM (Mec Gar) 10 round - no issues
- Kel Tec OEM (Mec Gar) 12 round - no issues
- OEM S&W 59XX mags w/std power springs had Failure-To-Feeds w/15 rds
- OEM S&W 59XX mags w/+5% spring had no issues w/15rds
- OEM S&W 59XX mags w/+10% spring had no issues w/15 rds
- Mec Gar 17 rd mags would not lock in place in the P11 when fully loaded

I'd probably would rely on a 59XX mag with a +10% spring for reload.

Finally, I didn't try the 69XX mags, but the 12 round mags from the KT site are made by Mec Gar and cost less than OEM S&W 12 round 69XX mags.

Thanks for the update Onward. Sometime I will order another spring for the 5906 mag I have. I can't do it right now though. I have spent too much money lately on deer hunting.
