Quick question about the P11 and CPX (both models) magazines...

Are they interchangeable? Will the Kel-Tec mag work in the SCCY mag and vice versa?

The P11 mags were modeled after the S&W 59 series double stack mags, of which I have several. I'm looking to replace or retire my Taurus 709 in favor of shared magazines. I can find Kel-Tec and S&W 59/69 series mags til rapture, but the Taurus 709 mags are rare as hens teeth.

I am not sure but I think the Sccy magazines are different. When I bought my Kel-Tec P-11 it came with one magazine & I had to buy a second one & the extended base plates separately. Sccy comes with 2 magazines with extended & flat base plates & has either a nitrided or stainless finish. I don't know about right now but from what I have seen around here the Sccy sells for as low as $219. The last I saw P-11's were about $50 more expensive. Although I own the Kel-Tec & do not own the Sccy I would say the Sccy is a better value and has a somewhat better trigger.

As for your question I bought a used 5906 magazine for my P-11 & while it would hand cycle rounds just fine in my P-11 it failed to feed every time I fired the pistol. I am pretty sure from my research if I got an extra power magazine spring from Wolff it would work.

I do not know for sure but I believe the Sccy magazines are different from the Kel-Tec or S&W's. You may want to research it more.

It's a very complete comparison of the two guns. (I did not do the comparison... the link will show you the author's 'NetName.)

I had a P-11 for quite a while -- but could never really get comfortable with the trigger if I was shooting anything else, as the P-11 trigger threw me off when I returned to it. I used it in a IDPA match once, and totally screwed up the first couple of shots. But did well with the rest of the match. I used a mag from a S&W 669, with the Kel-Tec spacer, and it held 12 rounds and fit beautifully.

The following would suggest that the SCCY will NOT accept S&W mags, although it's possible they could be "tweaked" to work. (Something about the notch on the mag.)

The fact that the first shots were off got me thinking, as that was likely what would happen if I carried it more, and shot other guns, too. Later got a PF-9 and don't have the problem with it.

I finally got the opportunity to compare the two guns side by side. I wanted to see for myself what minor/major differences existed between the two.

I have heard it often stated that the SCCY was a "clone" of the Kel-Tec. What I discovered may or may not come as news.

Although very similar in design, size, weight, external measurements, capacity, etc, these two pistols are NOT clones of each other. In fact, most parts DO NOT interchange.

The Kel-Tec mag release will fit the SCCY, but not vice versa. It appears that the hammer and hammer spring "might" interchange.

The Kel-Tec magazines will fit the SCCY if you move the notch. Not vice versa. The SCCY mag parts will fit the Kel-Tec, and vice versa, but they do not interchange. A Kel-Tec mag base will not work with a SCCY grip due to the tab that hangs down on the front of the SCCY mag well, but vice versa works fine.

Nothing else on these two guns will interchange without significant tweaking. The SCCY slide will fit the Kel-Tec, but I had a very difficult time getting it to move when installed. I even had a hard time getting the take down pin re-installed on the Kel-Tec (the barrel was "stuck" in the rearmost position), and was coaxed into assisting it into the correct alignment.

Other things that are noteworthy: The Kel-Tec rear sight is plastic and I could not locate any kind of set screw to remove or adjust it. Both pistols have plastic front sights and are attached the same way. The overall finish on the SCCY is better than the Kel-Tec (I noticed a few shards of plastic here and there on the Kel-Tec).

I think I ought to look for a used Kelt Tec P-11 that has already undergone the fluff and buff.

Kel-Tec does claim the S&W mags work in the P11
This is a polymer sleeve that slides on to the S&W 12 round magazine.

Since the larger capacity magazine extends down past the P-11 grip, this magazine sleeve was made to fill in the gap.

I was hoping the SCCY used the same mag, without alteration, because I do like the look of them better than the P11, but for an EDC, looks are the least of my worries.
