Kel Tec's site still says that it will ship Feb 2009. That didn't happen to my knowledge.

I was browsing a gun rag at the supermarket. I saw they mentioned that the reason for the delay is cosmetic changes. I remember Kel Tec saying the reason was to re-tool.

Anybody know:

1) When is it expected to start shipping?
2) What exactly is this change?

Keltec did ship in Feb 2009- just enough so people couldn't say "you didn't ship any out". Somewhere around 500 rifles, just to keep people somewhat happy.

There's one on gunbroker.com right now currently at over.....$3500!

There are also a few that have already sold on gunbroker...

Sorry, I know Kel-Tec makes a pretty decent product but anyone spending $3500 on one of these things has way too much money burn:rolleyes:

Now if the RFB would sell for around $1000-1200 then I would be seriously interested in maybe buying one.

Here's one that actually sold for a more reasonable price, but still a little pricey in my opinion.

No, they shipped around 20-30, based on statements made by the Kel-Tec employee who builds them. As of right now there's still well under 100 of them in the wild.

LOL, Are they going to start shipping? I haven't even heard a range report of the new miracle rifle...I could be interested, but only if they actually produce some, and lower the price...a lot.

They shipped just enough for them to have "met" their shipping date.

I am yet to see any real good reports on them. Who knows when they will really be shipping them. I would like to see an object report on them. I am particularly interested in what type of accuracy they can achieve since, as a hand loader, I have an interest in the 32" target model.

I heard they were having problems with the shipping company.

It seems the unicorns that they use to pull the wagons of rifles, went out on strike for better benefits.

J/K but I wouldn't hold my breath. :D

According to the post from George Kelgren on the KTOG site, their bottleneck was/still is with barrel blanks.

Hopefully, with the buying frenzy for firearms appearing to be tapering off a bit, they should be able to get the necessary component feedstock to churn them out faster than they have been doing.

There was one "enterprising" individual on GunsAmerica who cranked up the FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) factor and was asking $10,000 plus $200 shipping.

Shocking he still has it for sale. :D It has been on there for a while, and at that price I hope it stays.

Yeah, I want 24". I don't understand why they say the 30" will be out 2nd; makes no sense - the 24" one would sell much much better than the 30". Admittedly, the 18" one will sell best of all, so they were wise to come out with that one first.

So they haven't scraped the 24" version? Haven't checked the site lately, but I thought it was gone, and figured that they had axed it. Why else would they remove it from the site? I rather like the idea of the 32" version myself, but it is a bit hard for me to decide as of yet...since they only exist in our minds. :neener:

EDIT: Sent an E-mail to Kel Tec asking about the 24" version...will update when a response is received.

Well, they may have axed it for now, but they could always bring it back. They'd be stupid not to, but then again, they're stupid for thinking that people who want a long-range precision rifle are going to buy a 32" KT semi-auto bullpup, so who knows what they'll do?

I suppose that if you cut the 32 incher down, you might have reliability problems, as the system will be tuned for the longer one. :(

Eh, I am not known to be patient...so after all of about 12hrs of no response...I called and here's the scoop:
*24" Version is still planned. May change my mind and go 24", but I'll wait for reviews.
*"Design Alteration" involves only cosmetic details (didn't say or seem to know what exactly though).
*And most importantly a PISTOL CALIBER BULLPUP may be in the works! Ding...I'll take one of those!

That KTOG thread is long on pics of the rifle and opinions, but short on 'range reports' and chock full of off topic info. Reading it made my brain hurt.

I still can't tell if the darn thing is any good or not.

I think I'd pay that for one as well. I think I'll wait for the 24" version.

I hope you are prepaired to wait a very long time. According to kel tec the target model (32") will be produced next and maybe a couple years away from being produced.

It seems unfortunate that the moderator there spends his time blindly defending any critique of a kel tec product rather than making the forum useful.

I would really like to see some reports of 5 shot 100 yard groups. Word from kel tec was that the 18" version grouped terribly with 150 gr ammo 4-5 MOA. It supposedly preferes 165 ammo and with match stuff gets around 1 MOA. Some folks on the Kel tec board are claiming it is sub MOA easy with match ammo and a good shooter but they have yet to post a pic of a target.

A 18" bull pup carbine that can only achieve acceptable accuracy with match grade ammo seems a bit odd to me. What is the purpose of this gun? It is not super accurate at long range and for various reasons not well suited for that type of work. I must say if this is shown to be true (I am worried by the fact that those that own them seem unwilling to go shoot it for groups) it kills my desire for an RFB. I was already skeptical of a $1K+ kel tec given their products I have used in the past.

The RFB is still a wait and see item for me but I am much more skeptical now.

and it may be a while...a long while...

Me too, IIRC the 32" version was supposed to give the venerable PSG-1 a run for it's money. That is a pretty big statement...Unfortunately I don't recall where I first saw it...I thought it was on their site...but I can no longer find it.

As of right now, about 100 have shipped. Best guess is that ~100/month will be coming over the Summer.

The balance on this gun is about perfect. It strips for cleaning in seconds. The trigger is very nice. The only down sides I see are the need to remove the magazine to check chamber status and the short radius of back-up sights.

A 110-pound girl can shoot it easily even with various accessories attached. A scoped M1A with a suppressor felt more like a brick taped to a stick.
