I was thinking about purchasing a Kel-Tec 16A or 16B and I was wondering whether or not either of these two rifles would be a good choice. My interest isn't in terms of competition, I recognize that Kel-Tec doesn't exactly make match grade firearms, but rather for an easy to shoot, low cost rifle or carbine.

Any experiences or suggestions regarding how Kel-Tec rifles function and hold up are appreciated. Thanks.

I've had good luck with Keltec rifles, my only recommendation is be sure to test ammo before buying it bulk- I've seen some that are really ammo picky.

I cant speak about the 16a and 16b directly, but I do have a buddy who owns one...he is looking to sell it! VERY ammo picky. If you find the right ammo, its great...if you dont...

On a personal note, I own a keltec sub2k and love it. It eats ANY kind of ammo, its accurate and reliable.

I have an "A" model kel-tec. I like it but out of the models they sell I would recommend the "CA" model. The CA model has better sights and a threaded barrel for a comp. The "A" model front sight is pain to adjust. Mine is reliable. I would suggest that if you get one to keep the chamber clean. I have had stuck shells in the past from letting it get too dirty from not cleaning it. I would also look for one used. I have seen people paying around $600 for them new, you can find them used on gun boards for around $400. You could also build an AR. Buy a stripped lower and order a kit from del-ton ( http://www.del-ton.com/ ) Their kits start at $465 and you will wind up with a better rifle than the kel-tec. The problem is you will have to wait about 3 months for the kit because they are back ordered after the election. Mark

no don't get an a or b variant; the front sites are a complete joke. Get any c or d version, plus the have a flat top rail. this is the way to go.

I had a B and I didn't like it at all. The barrel got blistering hot after just a few rounds (so much that I never fired more than 15 at a time with out a cool down period).

Needless to say I sold it to help pay for some school bills. It was ok but a AR or MINI would be better for a shooter.
