Howdy, this being my first post please go easy on me :)

I think the most common complaint about the Sub-2000 would be the stock sights, they are hard to adjust and require the shooter to squash his or her face into the bolt tube. I began looking around for a solution that wouldn't require purchasing a $100 quad rail from Kel-Tec. Looking around the different forums multiple homemade rigs can be found, I took a little from each and this was the end result. I must say this method does require removing the front sight permanently and moderate cutting of the stock plastic hand-guard.

-I first removed the front sight by simply cutting the plastic from around the metal band, one can fully remove the metal band with a heat gun and pliers/ wrench if desired.

-Next, I removed the rear sight, this is really easy and the sight can be replaced anytime if desired. Next to the sides of the rear sight there are two screws, with the rifle unfolded unscrew the two screws, inside there will be a aluminum pin, slide the pin to one side and simply lift the rear sight off. Reinsert the pin and screws and your good to go.

-Next, remove the handguard and start to measure where you will want to place your barrel mount, I used a "UTG 2-Slot Universal Barrel Mount" Its a 1.5" clamp on picatinny rail, it sells for about $6 online. I used electrical tape to mark off the point where it will mount. Once you have your spot picked out, mark out were you will make your cuts on the hand-guard.

More..

-Next cut your hand-guard to the desired size with a dremel, and mount the rail, I used blue loc-tite on the rail and a carpenters level to make sure its mounted correctly. The sight is a "UTG 3.9, Red/Green Dot" Aimpoint knock-off, it can be found for $50 online and seems solid enough. I am going to test everything tomorrow at the range and will keep you posted, also any questions I would be glad to answer!

I really like how that comes out. Very low profile and unobtrusive. I may try something similar in the future with a QD riser and a mini red dot and reinstal the irons sights.

How's the balance? Those things don't weigh much and I could imagine that even that small amount of weight might make the balance even worse.

Thank you, I forgot to mention that the optic came with a awesome QD mount, its really solid and when removed the rifle can still fold. As for the balance with a loaded 17 round magazine it seems well balanced, even more so with the 33 rounders. I had the exact same idea with the extra QD riser to preserve the iron sights, I even ordered one but opted for removing the sights.

I was thinking of using another one of the 2 rail barrel mounts near the end of the barrel and then attaching a AR-15 style pop up front sight, and then cut the plastic Kel-Tec rear sight down to align the two, seems like a good set of back up sights if needed.

i love my sub2k as is -- i find the sights to be serviceable and pretty accurate for what it is... and bone-stock it's so compact and handy. i mean, i guess i "get it" that people want optics, but it really takes away from the whole purpose and novelty of the thing.

I agree, not having the stock sights still seems foreign to me. I am digging around the drawers looking for the front sight from an old Hi-point 995.
