I've noticed that no one has mentioned any of the three models of the above mentioned .223s by Kel Tec on this forum. Further a search did not turn up anything either.

I've got the SU-16A, with a Sightron scope 3-9, which I carry on my quad when I'm out and about, especially if I see a coyote. I've found the rifle very light to carry, and extremely accurate out to 200 yards with the 18" barrel.

I was wondering if any of you folks have had any luck with yours, or am I the only one that owns one?

I thank ya COROMO, I did the search thing looking for a Kel Tec Su-16A and it came back that there were nothing on file. Once again I thank ya.:uhoh:

Once again I thank you for posting, however there are no recent postings, the latest is 2012.

So therefore is there any comments pro or con on the Kel Tec Su-16, I've got one and enjoy the heck out of it. BTW how have they held up since 2004? I've got close to 500 rounds, all reloads without any problems, the sights provided were terrible, that's why I installed a 3X9 Sightron scope on it.

Come on folks I can't be the only one out here with a SU-16A rifle? Would just like to know what you think about them, good or bad. Would like to know how they are holding up etc. Like I've said I've shot close to 500 rounds thru mine without a problem and they were all hand loads.

I have a buddy who has one, loves it, he put some form of red dot on his, I have not fired, or seen it, he lives in North Carolina.

My brother has one and it is a reliable rifle. I haven't seen him post here in a while though.

As with all my experiences regarding everything Keltec, it had more plastic than I would have liked, it was remarkably inexpensive, it was unquestionably reliable, a light weight and of course unique design.

Brother's was satisfyingly plink-accurate; hickok45 style plinking with irons anyway. Fun rifle to shoot. No failures as far as the times I was around it. We tried, but could not stop it up. He put an aftermarket forend on it the last I was in the same zipcode as him; some aluminum tube with some rail space. Made it look pretty sweet.

I have a PLR-16 (one of the newer ones with the chrome lined barrel) and a SU-22C. They make a very nice pair!

That C model folding stock has got to be my favorite folding stock design of all time. It adds no width to the rifle when folded, provides great cheek weld when deployed, and you can fire the rifle folded if you need to.

Buddy that retired to Montana bought one, not sure which, for varmit control, specifically things that might attack livestock. Since he used to built AR15s and M-16s ( manufacturers license back before '86) I took it as a good sign that he thought it worth buying and hanging a light and scope on. He still has it by the back door after four years so it must be OK.

I've got quite a few AR-15s that I built, but they don't fit in my gun boot that I've got attached to my quad, that little SU-16 fits perfect even with the 3X9 scope mounted on it. I've shot several coyotes, but the pelts were terrible, at least I helped the quail population a bit.

BTW thanks for answering my question as to the reliability, reckon I'll have that rifle with me for some time then.

I picked up one a few years ago. It is very reliable & fairly accurate. Mine came with a reddot sight, but I have been useing the iron sights lately. I had thought about putting a 3×9×40mm scope on it. It is a handy rifle to have around. It is lite but still handles well. I keep a loaded 30rd. mag.in the stock it helps the balance & is there in case it's needed. I like mine very well. I did add a flash suppressor to it. These are nice rifles and I use mine alot when I am out in the woods. It will fit in a brief case or a small pack. It has not let me down yet! I would buy one of the new ones if I needed another .223 rifle. I give it an A. JMO.

A friend of mine had one. It broke in half after a couple thousand rounds and had to be replaced

Mist Wolf, how in the world did it break in half? It is supposed to fold in half, but I would be greatly surprised to see one break in half.

It broke vertically at the back end of the receiver ahead of where it folds. Keltec couldn't repair the damage and sent him an all new rifle.

No photos. When it broke, my buddy was pretty upset and I felt taking photos would have been a bit of poking the badger

My SU-16C is a great rifle. I have 4+K thru her and really like it. Humping it from coyote stand to strand at under 5lbs with reddot and a full mag is a breeze. The only problem IMHO is the trigger, it needs work, but is easily improved.
The early models had a flaw, a poorly staked bolt carrier group, this has been addressed.
The SU is very handy, will fit folded ready to fire into a tennis racquet case or backpack.
It is a perfect HD/SD or bug out gun. I love my AR carbine, but I shoot the SU as much.

I have an SU-16B that also came with the C(harlie) folding stock, that I bought in 2011 or 2012, I forget which. The factory sights were horrible, but with an inexpensive 4X scope, I was quite happy. Reliability has been excellent after a couple thousand rounds with all brands of ammo and mags I've tried. My scope stopped holding zero, so I'm working on replacing that, but no issues so far with the gun itself.

tactikel, the SU-16C is the one I wanted, but was unable to locate one, instead settled for the A model, which other than the sights I'm quite pleased with. I do believe the 16C with the 16" barrel has a stiffer (thicker) barrel, and would be able to shoot a few more rounds in succession before the groups started opening up. I've noticed in shooting coyotes out here, if I do my part, it usually only takes one round, after sighting in my scope.

Scarcity of replies here is probably linked to the fact that most SU16 owners find their way over to the SU16-specific forum over on ktog.org, where there is naturally an abundance of experience to draw upon. I used to hang out over there somewhat often, but finally got fed up w/ one of the mods [who liked to throw his wt. around being belligerent to no purpose] and stopped checking in more than once a quarter or so. Kel-Tec's focus on introducing new models when their limited production capacity can't even keep up w/ demand for their current offerings also became something of a thorn: hanging out on ktog was like listening to a nest full of hatchlings peep-peep-peeping away "Feed me! Feed ME!" all the time. The first dozen times it's cute, but after that it just becomes tiresome... ;)

Lastly, well over 2 years ago now Kel-Tec previewed a fix for the simply abominably cheap stock rear sight the SU16 comes fitted with on the SU-16E or F teaser preview, iirc, but has never made it available via their parts store. Wankers! Ah well, at least there is finally a version of the [somewhat overpriced] Tech-Sight available for it. Of course, by the time the TS for the SU16 was announced, I'd already accumulated the piecesparts to roll my own adjustable rear peep, all I have to do now is find the circular tuit that's still lacking...
