I went out shooting last weekend and started having problems with my SU16. I've had great fun with this gun, and it hasent given me a problem until now, over 1000rds through the gun w/o a problem. This weekend I would shoot 3-4 shots and have a Failure to Extract. Then the next round would come in and smash against the casing. I'd take the mag out, and the other ammo, and I would have to pull the bolt back and let it slam forward for the extractor to get the casing. Then I'd pull back and it would eject. So I figured maybe the extractor had some gunk in it.

So, using the owners manual, I took the gun apart and cleaned the extractor. Now I'm getting a failure to feed problem. I pull the bolt back to catch a round and it hits the feed ramp and jams. I can pull the bolt back and let it slam home and get the round in, but then when I eject it the bullet has been marred from the feed ramp.

I was using the cheap Olympic arms ammo for the first 800+rds, but now I haven't seen that stuff around. I've gone to a Winchester white box. It shot a couple hundred rounds of that w/o a problem. I'm using USGI 30rd mags. All that have worked flawlessly before.

So... what gives? I'm lost. Lost mainly because I'm still a new to guns and really don't know what would cause this.

Have you cleaned the magazine at all? Some magazines come with heavy grease inside that can get gummy after awhile.

it could be a magazine problem but maybe you should have the extractor replaced. also if you can't figure out what the problem is yourself by just looking at things i suggest taking it to a gunsmith and asking him to figure out whats wrong. Tell the gunsmith what is happening and ask about what he thinks could cause it and what you should do to fix it. Advice is free at most decent gun shops.

Send it back to keltec with a couple of used pieces of brass for them to look at so they can fix it. Mine was having problems and they said to send it in ups ground and they would refund my shipping. One other thing does the factory mag work ok? Maybe the GI mag isn't feeding right. Mark

factory mag was doing the same thing, same as my 10rd promag.

I've never cleaned the USGI mags before. And they are pretty old.

I'll take it to the gunsmith I buy my guns from, see what he thinks. I'll also clean the mags.

What is a fluff and buff?

fluff and buff usually refers to fine-tuning all the internal parts. basically just smoothing everything out by removing any burrs or hangups or overly sharp stuff.
