I took my Sub 2000 out the other day and sorta fell in love with the thing. After getting to shoot an MP5 I started thinking, "Ya know, maybe a light 9mm carbine has some uses." None very practical I suppose, but it sure is fun on the range.

I was able to dump mags (when I did have a malf!) pretty quickly into a torso sized target at 15 and 20 yards but the sights are a bit hard to use.

I'm wondering if a red dot sight isn't what I should stick on the thing. Problem is: I don't know diddly about them! Further, the KelTec made scope mount has 1" rings and I'm not seeing much out there that's 1" -- seems most of it is 30mm.

Little help here?

I'd also like to add on the 1" stock extension, but I'm not sure if I'd run afoul of Michigan law regarding OAL then. I'm trying to dig that up right now.

Any other "gizmos" that I can buy for the thing that others think are useful? A pressure sensitive light sounds reasonable -- just not sure how one mounts one to this thing.

A quick search turned up at least one red dot scope using 1" rings. It's a cheap-o for sure. All I did was type the words "1" scope red dot" in to google and found quite a bit.

As for the stock extension, I don't think making it longer could cause problems. It's making it shorter that could put you in OAL legal problems.

use any weaver rail screwed to the handguard

its easy use a leupold weaver rail and screw it to the handguard. i mounted an atn ultra sight.

Ok KT Range and KT Owners Group are absolutely great sources for all there is to know about Kel-Tec guns. As far as the Red Dot goes, I don't know of any that take 1" rings. It's a shame too because I would love to mount my Bushnell Trophy 4 recticle Red Dot on my Sub 2000 when I get one. Kel-Tec makes a under-barrel picatinny rail that can be viewed HERE, This item will accept ANY light/laser/vetical grip ect.... that fits standard Picatinny rails. I would like to mount a Streamlight M3 or M6 on my rail.

BryanP,
You're right on both accounts. I should have clarified: I couldn't find any 1" red dot scopes mentioned on THR. I tend to trust the crowd here more than any other Internet source w/ regards to firearms. As somebody else suggested, KTOG would be a good place too. Shoulda thought about that!

You're probably right regarding the OAL issue, too, but MI is goofy. Technically the Sub 2000 is a pistol here so I don't know what happens if I give it an OAL of greater than 30". Did I just make it a rifle? Not sure. I'll do my homework, though.

sadp40,
That's one way of doing it -- but does it still fold up when you slap real scope mount on it? That's the only reason I want to go with the KT made product -- I could still fold it up for easy transport.

Mine doesn't fold up and lock, but it still folds up enough to fit in a 16" wide pistol case. Also, if you take the red dot off the weaver rail, it still folds up and locks. I removed my front sight pin, the red dot takes its place. You sight thru the peep and use the dot as the top of your pin, or keep both eyes open and use it like a reflex. My red dot is a BSA 30mm cheap-o from wally world. Works like a charm.

Also I drilled out holes in the hand guard, my weaver rails tie to a piece of aluminum I tapped and that is thin enough to fit between the barrel and hand guard. Tighten up the screws and it pulls tight around the handguard, but wont strip out as easily.

So, I thought about this the other night while I am messing with my Mini, and I wonder "Why didn't I mount that red dot at 3 o'clock on my Sub2000?" the answer of course, is that I was trying to make up for having broken the crappy front sight. But if you haven't broken yours (yet), then I don't see why you couldn't mount the red dot at 3 o'clock and still fold up and lock the Sub2000. Also, some SU threads got me wondering if I could find a AR front sight to fit the S2000. Again, you'd lose the locking feature, but some folks could live with that for a quality aluminum front sight post.
