Back around 2000, Hi-Point 9mm carbines would be on sale for $89, they were typically about $119.
3 friends at work bought them just to have a cheap blaster for the pistol carbine events our club used to hold.
The things were aggravatingly accurate. Every one of them easily outshot the typical half-dozen Colt 9mm AR's that showed up (including mine), out to 100 yards (longest range we shot them on). On the close range IDPA style stages and steel plates at 25 yards they handled as well as the Colts and you couldn't tell the difference in times or scores. The darn things never jammed or stopped running, unlike the Colts. They're all still running fine today.
Unfortunately I never could get over their looks or image as a "cheap" gun to buy one myself. But performance-wise, they're extremely impressive.
I did buy a Glock-mag 9mm Sub 2000 back when they were less than $200 and felt like an idiot for spending so much on it. Funny how things change! It's small, super light, and the kids can easily handle it. They're fun little guns.
