I've been thinking of asking around who was from Ky and what's going on around here shooting-wise? I usually shoot at my Aunt's house(nice ravine at back of her property) until I get a range set up in my backyard. I've lived here for about two years and hail from New York. My Aunt and cousins have lived here for 25 years and I've been an annual visitor since childhood. I knew when I left the service that this was a good place to raise my kids. I also tend to prefer Kentucky's laws/views regarding guns compared to Ny. Anyway...

1) I'm not too far from Knob Creek Range. Anyone have any experiences there or know of any other good ranges close to Hardin County/Central Kentucky?

2) I've been to one gun show last summer up in Louisville but it was kinda small compared to ones I've been to there in the past. Are there any other shows that should not be missed this summer? In Lexington? Frankfort? Bowling Green? even Nashville?

3) What is the deal with the "Coon Hunter's Clubs" I see around here. There's one by my house that I know nothing about. There's one where I took my CCDW class and they had a 4? lane pistol range set up there but it's WAY too far to be convenient for me. From what i could gather during my class there was a small clubhouse with a kitchen and a few rules on the wall about not drinking, fighting, etc. Do you have to know someone to join or just knock on the door? Thanks Razz

Knob Creek is a good place to shoot if you're close ,pay one price and shoot all day and they also have a good selection of guns/ammo .But it's hard to beat the family farm where you can go blast all you want whenever you want .There are several gunshows in Louisville and Lexington area ,Ron Dickson has a large gunshow 3 or 4 times a year at the state fairgrounds in Louisville but you sometime have parking problems depending on what else is going on at the fairgrounds at the same time ,there are other smaller shows put on by Kenny Woods and others .And if you're into that kind of thing there are pistol matches of one kind or other almost any weekend during spring and summer months .

PRazz,

I shoot at Knob Creek in West Point and Bluegrass Indoor Range in Louisville. I like them both. I also shoot on property my family owns but it is really too far away for me to do it often.

There is a gun show coming up that has been pretty good in years past:

June 9-10, 2007: The Great Eastern, National Gun Day and JAG Military Show
Location: Kentucky Fair & Expo Center, Louisville, KY
Contact: Contact: Ron Dickson, P.O. Box 741, Oxford, OH 45056. (513) 523-3574

I have no idea what those coon hunter's clubs are about.

Welcome to Kentucky & good shooting!
