For a long time I have admired the keystone hunter pistols, and have several times been close to pulling the trigger. Today I was checking out a few things as potential birthday gifts and ran across the pistol for $155 on Gunbroker...transfer, shipping, etc brought it up to $215. Better than I have seen recently as the guns have typically been $200 plus Shipping and transfer for the walnut stocked model. Digging around I got it to $206 after shipping through Buds. I have tried to buy from them in the past and it just hasn’t worked out for them to be cheapest AND have stock when I was ready to buy, and I rarely buy new anyway.

Long story short, fluted 22 blued/walnut gun is headed my way. I will not “get it” until right before Christmas as it will be a birthday/Christmas gift from the wife and kids. I’m tickled though. I always kick myself for buying other stuff when I’m looking at these, but this time there will be no kicking. It’s bought.

I've thought about these quite a bit, but I've always wondered how shootable they are offhand.

Let us know how it shoots!

Buds is slow at shipping... or maybe I’m impatient. Order placed Saturday, several confirmation emails including one saying the funds were successfully pulled from the bank account. Now I’m waiting for shipment notification which should come today, because it’s been 3 days since they pulled funds and they say that they wait 3 days for funds to deposit into their account.

I have shot a chipmunk pistol before, but it was the plastic stocked version marketed as a Crickett pistol. I also have a Crickett rifle I bought for my kids and I have worked the trigger a bit on it to make it smoother. I will likely do the same on this one when i officially get it for my birthday or Christmas. I may go ahead and thread the barrel as well because I plan to get a 22 suppressor so that I can shoot at home without driving the neighbors crazy. That will give me plenty of options for rimfire... semiauto in my Phoenix, several revolvers, this single shot, my Butler derringer, a few rifles including a threaded barrel bolt action repeater... I will be able to shoot quietly. And I do intend to thread the barrel on one of my revolvers. I have one that’s not worth much and it’s already been modified a bit so why not?

It does take a little time when doing an EFT transfer to Bud's; not to bust your bubble but I waited nine days before they ever shipped the last gun I bought from them.

Anyhow, I'm very interested in your report on the little pistol. I've been eying one but can't make myself "pull the trigger" on it. For some silly reason I'm always looking for the "Ultimate Squirrel Getter"; 10 rimfires and 8 Shotguns later I've still not found it. Out of curiosity, how do you plan to carry it? On a sling, in a pack, or some type of holster? Wonder if it'd be worth putting a scope on it? Whatever you decide, it's certainly an interesting little firearm.

Frustrating. The gun is “out for delivery” but it will not be delivered today as my transferring shop is closed on Monday. It can wait another day I suppose, unless it’s like all of the other times I ship to this shop. They for some reason put packages either in his personal mail slot at the Bank of PO Boxes Or take it back to the post office for him to retrieve and then he waits until the next Monday to go get them because the post office is only open when normal people are working.

So it looks like they didnt take it to his PO Box. Hopefully they deliver it tomorrow as described. CA9E65C3-08BD-4AEB-9867-EF4F38E1E326.png

Lol my FFL buddy has his mother-in-law go to the post office for him. One of the advantages of living in a small town.....on an island.....

I'm looking forward to you getting your hands on the gun. I handled one of the pink plastic ones, and the grip felt s little small for my hands. If your seems better I'm thinking I...uh...."need" one for pig control.

The 22 mag Or 17hmr variety seem optimal for the pork pistol. I’m sure 22lr will do it, but faster and harder bullets seems like a better fit for that use. Might be a bit noisier though.

Shots are all in traps at like 4' at most, otherwise I agree, a .22 mag or .17hmr and fmjs would be a better option.

I got the gun. Metal fit looks good. It’s oily but it will clean up nicely. The sights are nice for being a budget gun. It’s not all that front heavy either considering it’s size. The wood is carved (milled? Done on a machine) nicely enough but there are some spots that appear to be open grain where finish did not get applied. I registered the warranty and immediately emailed customer service. I’m hoping that they will send me a bottle of stain so that I can fix it because otherwise the pistol is pretty nice. The swell at the bottom of the grip is a bit much, but I have large hands so I somewhat expected that.

Ive been interested in one of those for a while, curious how the trigger is compared to my g2 contender.
Nowhere near contender nice, but not terrible. Realistically it’s a trigger for a $100 rifle that’s put into a pistol that costs nearly $200 because economy of scale. I will take this trigger apart and smooth it up, just like I did with the crickett rifle, but it’s always going to be a $20 component on a $100 getup. I do like the little thing though.

UPS will not deliver to a post office box. Thats for US Mail only.
There is a lot of transfer here. Many things stating delivery by one group will come by another. Usually small UPS items will come by USPS, whereas large and bulky UPS items come by UPS. FedEx is a total crapshoot, but generally they deliver their stuff, but again small items are likely to be handled by USPS. I suspect larger cities would have less of this transfer amongst agencies, but at least locally the USPS seems to carry anything that it can, and only stuff too big for USPS comes by the carrier of record.

Do not confuse Surepost or Smartpost with regular FedEx or UPS shipments. They are not the same thing. Those are specific FedEx or UPS shipping programs that partner with USPS for delivery.
If you ship regular FedEx or UPS it does not suddenly get shunted into Surepost or Smartpost at FedEx/UPS/USPS choosing. The size of the package is immaterial.

Regular UPS and FedEx packages prohibit delivery to a post office box.

Here is a good explanation: https://shipware.com/blog/surepost-vs-smartpost-whats-the-difference/

I finally got a solid contact between me and Keystone. It’s been spotty as I got contact info from a gunsmith who is seldom at his desk as he is normally making repairs... kinda makes sense so I kinda bought the story there. Long story short there is a stock headed my way. They didn’t know what stock was on the gun (odd since they should have production records) but I told them it was walnut, but if possible I would prefer the blue laminate and would gladly pay any difference to upgrade. Blue stock is on the way and there is no charge. I just have to swap stocks and send the walnut stock back in the prepaid package. I was already excited about the gun, but now I’m even more excited. We shall see how this shakes out, but I’m pleased with how it’s proceeded even if it has been a bit slow. Every phone call has been answered by a human, they have all spoken great English, and they have all sounded like they genuinely care that the customer is satisfied. The gunsmith I spoke with last apologized for being hard to get in touch with and spent about 5 minutes on the phone trying to make sure that I was well taken care of and that I would be happy in the end. The only question asked was what the issue was, and with a quick explanation that it looked like the finish sprayer had a bubble or something weird happen then he was able to finish up documentation.
