The oldest Himalayan Import Kukris came from the same knife makers as the Khukuri House Kukuri’s. They were not marked with any knife makers names.

There is a video, created by Craig Gottlieb who started selling Khukuri House knives under the that brand name “Ghurka House”. Craig went over and created a video on the making of kukris. These knives are made by a collection of people who work in the same "complex". The lead knife maker forges the blade and fashions the brass parts. The handle is finished to the knife by another person, the handle and blade are ground and polished by another person, the sheath is made by another. There are a lot of different people involved in the making of a khukuri. I suspect the lead knife maker pays all the “subcontractors” a piece rate.

The Khukuri house guys then bargained with the lead knife maker for what must have been close to ten kukri’s.

When Craig Gottlieb started buying identical knives from the same sources as Himalayan Imports, just the brand stamping was different and the price about half, Himalayan Imports had to do something different. I don’t know what they actually did, but early on the new Himalayan Import knives were signed.

Ghurka House lasted for a couple of years. Khukuri House continues to use the same knife makers and apparently provides most of the Nepalise Kukri’s found on ebay.

Khukuri House knives that I have handled and owned only have place of origin, maybe a date, and if requested, a brand name.

IIRC, HI started out with the same shop that made them for KH. Then they bought or contracted or something another shop, that came to be known as "shop 2." 99% of HI's repeat customers started asking specifically for shop 2 khukuris, and they eventually stopped buying from shop 1.

Something like that, anyway.
