Spooney's thread here LINK reminded me I haven't shared any pics of 'lil Reno's Christmas present yet. It's a stainless .22 Crickett with a pink synthetic stock and an el cheapo 4x25 scope on top. On her first trip to the range with this rifle she was spinning the plates on her spinner target out to 25 yards.

I highly recommend some sort of reactive target (like the spinners) for new shooters. Punching holes in a piece of paper can be a little tedious for younger/newer shooters.

Lets see some pics of your kids, nieces, nephews or what have you enjoying the shooting sports.

...sorry about the blurry pictures. It appears I can't operate a digital camera to save my life.

Yeah, you should have seen us trying to get it on paper.

You'd think nobody'd ever seen one knuckle-dragger behind a teeny-tiny, hot-pink rifle, carefully squeezing off shots; with another goon behind a massive spotting scope, calling out military correction information.

Ya shoulda worn your BDU's, boonie hat, and face paint. Then you woulda looked the part. :D

(Maybe a ghillie suit, but that would have been over the top.)

I'll add some

The kids didn't get Christmas guns this year, so I let them shoot mine.

A standard Bushmaster M4gery.

P.S. - Took the wife out a second time New Year's Eve and she hit 5/10 on a 10" target at 100 yards. Only the second time she'd picked up that rifle. She is hooked.

My brother won't let me post pics of the nephews but here are some pics of their Christmas guns and me.:)

What you say about targets in dead on. I gave my brother a set of the steel critters from D&D Manufacturing. They are the big ones for .22 pistol.

Produce makes a fine targets for kids as well.:D Pumpkins beware! Stationary clay targets are fun too.

I second clay pigeons. They break, and then you can challenge them to hit the pieces.

And a guy told me he took a bunch of stale cookies, sprayed them orange and used those.

They break, and then you can challenge them to hit the pieces.

Hey, I'm 32 and that's still fun. Problem is, hit 'em dead on with a .30-30 or something bigger and there ain't a piece left to hit.:D

Here is a picture, although not from Christmas, of my youngest daughter (age 14) shooting our Walther P99. This was taken this past summer right after we bought the thing. No comments are necessary on her hand position. We discussed that after she was done shooting, and she is working on improving that. I was more interested in her having fun with the gun than in proper shooting position. That can come afterwards.

Other nice thing about clay pigeons? Demonstrate that if you hit the in the center circle, lots of times it'll either make a hole only("See how many times you can hit the center before the rest breaks"), or breaks out the center, and they have to aim to hit the outside("Where you gonna break it at?)

What Firehand said! We had fun in Scouts chasing all the little bits around the range with the pop-gun .22s. Besides, in a house with kids, there ain't no such thing as "stale cookies".
