Kids hunt then cook Bacon Roasted Pigeon

Several years ago, in the small city of which I am an inhabitant, a couple of guys got out at night and harvested pigeons. They found a bunch sleeping on a telephone wire, and hit the wire with a long stick. The pigeons fell to the ground, where they were captured with a net.

I thought it was pretty ingenious, but the local police felt otherwise. They hauled them in. However, it turned out that the city had no ordinance against capturing pigeons, so they turned them over to Texas Parks & Wildlife. One guy had a hunting license, so they let him go. The other guy had no license, and he was fined. The city now has ordinances protecting all wildlife.

Sheesh! Let 'em go after the local pigeons if they want. If nothing else they could be ground up for cat food!

This is typical of authorities with too much time on their hands. I was a psychologist (now retired) in a rural community where things like this "great pigeon caper" took place on a regular basis. I was too frequently brought in to determine if these dastardly miscreants were dangerous. I usually determined that idle sheriff deputies were overly zealous in their search for criminal behavior. The judge, with whom I worked closely, usually threw the case out.
