Hi All!

Daughter: "Dad! Do you think we could make squirrel-pot-pie?"

Dad: "Ummm....well....oh hell yes lets try! I'll go grab your gun, you get the dog."

And with that my daughter's quest for her own hunting and cooking show continues. We've been hunting on a large tract of private land and my daughter's noticed that we've been having to hunt harder and further to fill the game bag - she's understanding that her hunting influence is having an effect. So based on obvious territorial markers such as massive maddens and signs of high squirrel activity, we've been watching and have identified 6 squirrels (5 females and one male so far as I can tell...I never thought I'd be studying squirrels private areas through the spotting scope!) that get the free pass.

Hunting the rest of the property we've been having to work pretty hard, so this is likely her last squirrel episode until next fall/winter so the little suckers can, in her words, "re-populate" a bit.

Youtube - Squirrel Pot Pie

Her next video - "step-by-step practice with your shotgun!"

Thanks so much for watching, she and I both get a big kick out of reading all your comments together.

Cheers,

Brobee

Too good!

My girl is a bit younger and not so inclined to hunt yet. Still working on fishing. I'm not ready to give in quite yet.

Nice dog too!

Good job!

I love these videos but one thing I noticed on this new one is India acting different. Normally he/she sits right next your daughter as she's aiming[always looking right where she's pointing the gun-I get a huge kick out of that] and then jumps forward at the shot.
Now India just kind of jerks at the shot but doesn't run forward.
I heard your daughter say "sit India"
C'mon man retrievers gotta retrieve!!!

Yeah, poor India kinda gets the shaft when we go squirrel hunting as Julia loves to do her own retrieves. India will get sent if the squirrel falls into water, and she's also dynamite with respect to hunting and treeing the squirrels, but I think she'll be much happier once duck/geese season comes about in September...:)

Awesome.
I'll be sure and check out the video when I get home from work. ;)

My daughter will shoot deer, but she thinks rabbits and squirrels are pretty so she won't shoot or eat one. Go figure.

Well done!

I hope you don't mind me asking.... Ive been looking at that exact model (20ga Compact JR How tall is she? How much does she weigh? And how's the Compact Jr working out with the removalble chokes?

I watched most of the shoot'n and cook'n vids. Nicely done. I'm sure there's some coaching going on but she has a certain charm for such a show. Kind of a different take on The Pioneer Woman.

It's ironic that you took a video of something that the memory will surely last a lifetime. ;) Good job to both of you.

Just had her down at the measuring board and on the scale - 4 feet 4 inches and 72 lbs.

Re choke - I've got an improved cylinder in there right now and it seems about right.

Re Memories - Yes, kinda strange I agree, but she badly wants her own hunting and cooking show and she has recruited me to be her cameraman.

Cheers,

I'm sorry but I feel I just have to point this out:

"Ive been looking at that exact model (20ga Compact JR How tall is she? How much does she weigh? And how's the Compact Jr working out with the removalble chokes?"

He wants to know about her shotgun.

He answered right.... I was wanting to know about both.

I was guessing she was a little bigger and was impressed looking at her shooting and the recoil.

I just noticed in another thread where he said he milled a 12oz? piece of brass and put it in the stock to help with recoil.

Brobee Biter, did you put on an additional recoil pad for her or just use what came with the shotgun?

Yes, I made a 12oz brass weight that slides into the stock bolt hole. I also had to make a new, longer stock bolt to accommodate the weight. I'm using the standard recoil pad that came with the gun.

Cheers,
