Kids on guns and shooting

I was talking to my 7 year old cousin the other day. Guns are a frequent topic of discussion for the whole family and many of our friends. She asked a question about my "big gun." I told her that Daddy said she might be able to shoot it this weekend. Her response: "Real guns are lots more fun than... you know those guns that have the orange tip?"
"Cap guns?"
"Yes, those. All they do is go click-click-click. You can't tell if you would have hit anything. With [big brother's] pistol you can actually hit something. I like shooting his pistol."
She is a decent shot with the .22, and more than decent with her BB gun. I was cracking up, especially about not being able to tell if you would have something. Eternally practical. Even if she does want a pink gun

When he saw my rifle, an 11 year old friend asked "If you die, do I get that?"

Another friend said it would be really cool to take an AK-47 to Walmart and stand guard.

Anyone else have funny kid quotes or stories about guns?

I was cleaning and oiling my Mosin in the garage at my grandparents house, and my cousin, whos about 7, sat down next to me and just watched me run the patches through and oil the bolt, basic maintenance stuff.
Anyway, I see some old cosmo in the chamber so I flip out my pocket knife to get the gunk out, and I see her recoil in fear at the sight of the (3in) blade.

I just thought it was funny that here we are with this 7ft Mosin, and she freaks out over a 3'' pocket knife. She knows the Mosin is a firearm, she's watched me shoot it before.

My doughters always ask on a shooting day,(dad do we get to shoot the spinny thang) . I always let them shoot my ruger .22 mkII. . I have an old spinning target my father had bought for me to shoot at when i was little. We still get hours of entertainment out of it.

My son is 8 now and has asked me numerous times if he gets my guns when I die My Ex-wife took a video of him and his friend (her boyfriend) out shooting in the woods with a Taurus 9mm and a Judge. Keep in mind the kid is 7 at the time of the video and shooting a 9mm handgun. Pretty proud of his control and awareness, taught him myself

"I pa-ting-ed it!"

I had a friend and his young boys over to shoot BB guns in the backyard. We were shooting at empty tin cans set up on a 55 gallon drum. When the oldest boy shot low and the BB hit the drum it made a very distinct "Pa-ting!" sound.
The boy safetied the rifle like we showed him, carefully set it down, then began to fist pump while saying: "Yes, I Pa-ting-ed it."

One of my sons, when asked why you shouldn't play with guns simply responded: "Because they put big holes in things."

My favorite though was my other son in school responding to the question of what a kid should do if they find a gun laying on the street:
"I'd check to see if it's loaded, then I'd put the safety on if it had one, then I'd bring it to my dad and ask if we could shoot it."
Needless to say, the teacher wasn't as impressed as I was.

A lot of years ago, when I was dry-firing my Walther PP, my five year old daughter came into he room. She didn't say a word, walked up, and held out her hand for it. When I gave it to her, she dropped the mag and racked the slide to be sure it was unloaded.

I asked, "Don't you trust me?"

"Yes, daddy, but *I* didn't check it."

And, yes, she really could rack a slide as a five year old.

My Darliing 6 year old Daughter asked if she could go hunting with me... I asked her " Du you think you could drop the hammer on a DEER??? She asked "what do you mean ?" I said do you think you could kill a deer. Her reply was "Oh No, I want to watch you kill it Daddy!". This is the one who helps me reload by weighing the charges prior to putting them in the case... She says we weigh them so we don't blow the gun up!!!!

a 10 year old i know wants to shoot my m38 mosin nagant carbine, i dont think its gonna happen, but funny to imagine him shooting it

My ten year old shoots my oldest son's Mosin 91/30 and my AK and my Mossberg 500 20 gauge by himself. It has taken some time to get him there, but you might be surprised how much kick a young kid can handle.
I suggest you holding onto the rifle as well the first few times.
Depending on the child's size, this can be accomplished by taking up a kneeling position with the rifle butt held in your shooting hand and your other on the forestock, while the child stands in front of you and squeezes the trigger. It takes the recoil off of them. Try it dry first to see if you can find a comfortable position for both of you to get on the gun. My seven year old daughter recently shot my AK this way. One round at a time...
You may have to stand or crouch behind them, but it can be done. I always started them out with airsoft, then .177, then .22, rifle and revolver. Once I feel they can handle it, we break out the big guns...

It is our duty to pass on to the next generation a love of firearms and not a fear of them.

yeah, like i said m38, its a bit more beastly then a 91/30, and i have stronge feelings about leeting a 10 year old shoo a rifle mos tadults wont shoot, i swear every time i get that thing out for a local shoot it scares everyone, its like they have never heard thunder before

ill teach him to shoot a bolt action gun, but it aint gonna be the m38, yet.
