I've heard the boars are that way. Heard you have to slaughter them right away?

I've been lucky enough to only kill sows and they all tasted just fine to me in all shapes and sizes.

Mmm, old Triumphs and the HOG is dead and leakin' all over the floor :D

I love me some hog. I trap 'em, keep the freezer full. That's a good thing. The trap is sized such that it tends to keep the REALLY big ones out.

My current bikes are...

SV650S Street
KLR650 Street and hunting/mud
Diamo 200 Cheap Chinese POS for hunting/mud

Racers--
XR100 flat tracker (150cc stroker, mad dawger)
XR motard (for mini road racing)
KX80 motard

The racers are retired.

Well, a sub 200 lb boar I trapped a few weeks ago is mighty tasty so far. I've made up about 15 lbs of sausage, but have a lot more to grind. We smoked a roast off him that was fantastic and ate the tenderloins and some of the ribs I BBQed. I just got some more sausage casings, need to do some more grinding and stuffing.

OK so this isnt exactly hunting but didn't know where else it may belong on here..... To make a long story short, my uncle has...had a pig that terrorized the neighborhood, tearing up gardens etc, actually attacked me once. The other day it attacked his elderly dying dog so he finally allowed us (my father, brother and I) to take care of it for him. She was about 350-400lbs and about 4 years old. It took 4 big dudes to get it in the back of the truck and was not easy haha.

Great Shot!

Thanks for sharing the Photos.

Some folks dont like venison, hog, coon, beaver, ducks, geese, pheasant, walleye and anything that dont grow in the local supermarket. For them there are dot dogs.

Why over 150lbs no good? For domestic raised hogs 225-250 is ideal weight. Under 200 lbs. it was considered underweight for the fair and disqualified.
Any boars that haven't been castrated (all wild ones) will have a much more gamey taste to the meat, but that doesn't mean they are inedible.

My wild hog experiences are much more limited though. I've only harvested one, she was under 200lb, but it was definitely delicious.

OK that one made me literally belly laugh. While I wont usually eat a wild sow over 200 because they are usually just too damn stinking to eat, a boar over 150 I have generally found to just be out and out right disgusting even with the skin off and it was washed. Rank is an understatement. Just plain nasty.

I saw the perfect recipe that would fit a wild boar over 150 pounds. It's a common recipe used for any Javalina. "Take a ham from a boar seasoned to taste, place it on an Oak or Hickory plank (make sure to wash the plank well before this) Preheat oven or grill to around 270 to 300. Cook completely through. Usually takes to between 4 to 6 hours. Remove from oven or grill. Let cool for about 20 minutes. Remove ham from Oak or Hickory plank. Throw away Ham and eat the damn plank! :D
