Hello all -

I'm curious if anyone has source for the models Kimber made before they came out with the series II.

I have a pre II (no Schwartz safety) on hold for me at a shop near by, wanted to do a little research before I pick it up.

It still has Yonkers, NY on the frame, but all it has engraved is "Custom."

Not sure if it was added when the action and trigger job were done or if its original to the gun. The style of the test doesn't look like a factory engraving.

All I know for sure is that the slide is rounded, anti-snag profile. It's a factory slide, with Kimber logo engraved.

I'm told it was carried for several years by someone in L.E. and I believe it, it needs a refinish, but whoever did the work on the trigger/action did a great job.

The price they're asking is very reasonable, given the condition of the finish, but everything is still snug and in good working order.

Just curious if anyone knows what model it might be or if its a franken-kimber.

Thanks!

That's what I'm thinking, I'll post pics when I get it. Going to need a refinish for sure, but still up in the air which way to go on color

I had a Compact Custom and have a Compact CDP, both great guns. I too like series I guns a lot, although I do have a Stainless Target II in 10mm.

While I'm pretty sure all the Kimber 1911's have been made in Yonkers, NY, didn't the Series I Kimber's have Clackamas, OR, stamped on them?

I think the Clackamas Kimbers are first production run. They're collectible, or something. I tend to use everything I buy, so I avoid collectible. Its my way of preserving it for the guy that wants it.

Hopefully I can pick it up this week, whoever owned it previously found the factory barrel for it, so it'll come with that and the Springfield barrel that's currently installed.
