Ok all,

First ... I have about had it with my own ignorance and the depth of knowledge one needs to function in today world, particularly the world of 1911 ownership.

I have a Colt Combat Commander, apparently a Series 80. I purchased a Kimber .22 Conversion Unit for it, all excited that I could practice till my little heart was content. Problem ... the Kimber is for a Kimber gun or Series 70 1911 models ... The Series 80s have some little sear mechanism that rises with the trigger pull, so the unit has too much metal in the rear of the slide for this mech to work.

What the $%&^ is the difference between Series 70s and 80s? Also, would you consider just cutting out some metal from the rear of the slide to accomodate the mechanism? This will most likely void any warranty from kimber at the least.

Will the Ciener units work on my CCC?

Ugghghghg .... this is so frustrating .... it had been a bad week. See my posts under shotgun and General Discussion for insights into my current state of mind.

About $200.

But seriously, the series 80 uses a trigger-actuated firing pin block that some people dislike.

Ciener's kit is supposed to fit series 80 guns (says so on his website, anyway).

You can pull the fp block parts and put in the little spacer if you just want it to work.

Did you talk with Kimber?

(I suspect you can have a bit of material machined out of the slide without problems.)

As far as I know, the Kimber unit is made by Ciener (as are most of the other units available -- except the Marvel.) If you don't get the right model in the first place, you're going to have the same problem with a Ciener.

No experience with the Kimber-marked product - - -

- - - But Elder Son and I have used a Ciener Platinum Cup version on - -
An old Series 70 Govt Model
A series 80 Gold Cup
A 1948-era Government Model,
and
A first model Kimber stainless full-size.

Have to admit I never put onto a Commander.

Hope you can work out your problem.
Johnny
