Kimber Custom II Owners

My Tactical Custom II has been flawless until it tells me it is time for a new recoil spring. Bought it new in 2003, still going strong. Its my best shooter.

My Custom II has been great. I started having some failure to feeds with it until I discovered it was with reloads that had not been sized so they were a bit fat for the chamber. Never a problem with any factory ammo and very accurate. I use Wilson and Chip McCormick mags (although I haven't had any problems with the Kimber mags it came with either).
Given the price of other 1911s with similar features I think it's a "best buy".

I have one. I knew I was buying a slide, barrel and frame. The MIM parts got thrown out, and replaced by Ed Brown stuff. Magazine got trashed, replaced by Wilson, and no problems. In fact, the gun is a REAL tack driver.

The lips on the original Kimber magazine flared out, and, when I put it a Detonics, it locked the gun up, but good. Trashed it.

Also replaced the springs with Wolffe stiffer stuff. Jack Huntington Advanced Gunsmithing went through the entire gun, trigger, ramp, etc. It was flawless from day one.

When I got done, I had a custom 1911 that drives tacks, for under 1100 dollars. Forgot we added a Sprinco guide rod as well.

I have owned nearly 25 1911s in the last 25 years.

Eight have been Kimbers, and each of which has been 100% reliable...that's why I keep buying them. And carrying them. None was a Custom, but six were sub-5" barrels, and four were 3" barrels. The fact that they can consistently build reliable short barreled 1911s impresses me.

In my experience, no other manufacturer thta I have owned has been 100%, including some that are far more expensive (although the jury is still out on my latest, and I won't comment on it until I get a few more rounds through it).

Mine had about 6,000 rounds of .45 through it before I converted it to a .22 bullseye gun. It had two malfunctions during breakin, so it had at least 5600 flawless through it. They're reliable, and in my opinion have one of the best triggers at that price point.
