Gonna trade in my Kimber Ultra Carry II for a fullsize 1911. I want something I can shoot a lot of low power target ammo through, and I want an accurate out of the box 1911. I know there are a gazillion choices of 1911 that would fit my needs but of these two, what would you prefer and why?

I would go with the Gold Cup mainly because I had one years ago and it was one of the most accurate .45's I have ever had right out of the box. The other one is a Combat Commander that was customized by Colts Custom Gun Shop.

Gold Cup, I've always wanted one... Actually I need two, my father wants one too.

That, and I've never been a Kimber fan. I like my 1911s to say "Colt" on the side.

So to directly answer your question, I'd say the Colt Gold Cup. But, that would not be my choice. Rather, I believe a SA TRP would be a better choice.

All my Kimbers are better made guns than my gold cup...I know it says Colt but there is a lot more to a well fitted pistol than the name on it.

Kimber, especially for a range gun. Colt has no monopoly on 1911's, and as far as accuracy, I suspect Colt engineers use the Gold Match as a benchmark.

That's pretty laughable, considering the Colt Gold Cup has been in production since 1957, almost 40 years before Kimber made their first 1911.

Actually they do. No other manufacturer operating today has actually ever made an M1911. Everyone else makes clones.

The exception is Remington, who made a short run in the WWI years, but their current cast-frame pistol is very different from the M1911.
