Horror has a face.
Question: What parts on a Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm are MIM?

I am planning on buying some parts from Wilson Combat to swap the MIM parts out of my Kimber.

I already have an order coming to me from W.C., so I thought I would have these parts included with that order.

Not trying to start a discussion about whether or not MIM parts are good, or whether it is worth swapping them out, just want to know what parts are MIM, if anyone knows.

Thanks.

Other than the slide/barrel/frame/trigger/grip screws, virtually all the small parts are MIM.

Yeah, that's what I am hearing. I might have to re-think this project and shoot it until something breaks. Then I can replace that one part with something better and hopefully it does not damage another part in the process.

My Kimbers are going strong with MIM. Evidently with MIM you get a good part or a bad part. If there good, they last, if not they break soon. That's what I'm told and what other members say about MIM. I had a MIM disconnect in my CDP II Pro which looked like two parts put together badly. Kimber replaced it with one that looked well made. A little polishing (not recontouring, just polishing) here and there and it's still going strong. A little carefull polishing on a Kimber trigger group and you can have a fine trigger. No spring tweaking, just a bit of polishing to smooth things up. I am not recommending this, just saying their parts are good.

Like I said to begin with, I did not want to start a discussion about whether or not MIM parts are good.

And like I later said, I am probably just going to leave it alone and if something breaks, then I will deal with it.

But to illustrate, it's kinda like racing a car with cast pistons. They might be okay, they might not. And as was mentioned above, if there is going to be a problem, they tend to show up sooner rather than later.

I think I understand where you're coming from but I think perhaps this issue has been over done. The racing industry will jump on new product and designs in a heartbeat., if cast iron pistons proved to be as reliable as MIM parts , believe me, they would be using them. Also I was led to believe both the LA swat guns and the Special Forces guns had MIM parts and I've heard no complaints. But you're right this has been debated to death. Good luck and shoot safe.:)
