Kimber Model 82 Government Accuracy

Was only 50 yards. Guess I didn`t mention it because it was in the title of the video.

The Kimber M82 is a superb rifle. I have two of them, both sporters, one in .22 LR and one in .22 Hornet. They are frighteningly accurate -- albeit a .22 Hornet can only do its best shooting with careful handloading.

Added: I found out about Winchester Wildcat decades ago. I used to regularly win .22 silhouette matches shooting WW, and bought it by the case. I still have two cases squirreled away.

Depends on the gun. My Thompson Center Classic is very accurate, for a semi-auto. But it hates Wildcats.

I worked very hard on getting my 82G up to bench level shooting.

1. Nemohunter trigger job. He does great work, fast turn-around, very reasonable price, greatly improved and lighter pull afterwards.

2. Scope base. I used a EGW scope base for a 52C that mounts right on.

3. Scope. I used the standard benchrest scope, the Weaver T36.

4. Action screws. I played with torque a lot but found the best was 36in/lbs on both screws for me.

5. Ammo. I tried virtually every .22 ammo there is, seriously. I have lots of different in my stock, but I also ordered even more. I tested subsonic rounds, every flavor of Eley, Wolf, SK, RWS, Federal, and Lapua and a few others. Best for me was Lapua Center-X.

6. Tuner. Using the Hopewell method, I shrunk group sizes on average by 0.1". That might not sound like a lot, but the gun was shooting 0.4" average groups across ten 5-shot groups and that went down to 0.3" average across ten 5-shot groups.

Didn't touch the crown, didn't touch the bedding. Not sure I believe that these rifles need bedding from some things I've read in Precision Shooting.

Highest score on the USBR? 237, more operator than the gun itself in terms of limitations now.

My sound is out at the moment so I will go back & view video with sound.

My favorite part of the video is how you captured the massive recoil.

I have only shot bulk pack from mine. 82G was an awesome deal from the CMP. Probably my hardest to replace gun if I lost it.

"more operator than the gun itself in terms of limitations now." I know how that goes.

Not sure if this one was a CMP gun or not.
I`ve heard that some of them were sold commercially.

I don`t intend to get into match shooting with this gun. There are none that are close by.
Main reason I bought was that it was at a good price. Figure my gun collection is part of my retirement fund.
Until then, I get to have lots of fun with them. :)

My battery also includes a .22LR and a .22 Hornet, both early Kimber M82s. and yes, they are both accurate in the extreme. I fire nothing but Plain Jane .22s for one hole groups at 50 yards. The Hornet does sub 1" at 100 with the right handloads. Only my old Marlin 39A can challenge them.
