I shot a friend's Kimber 82 (.22lr) Govt a few weeks back and was stunned with the accuracy. Well, once again left unsupervised in a gun store, what do I see on the rack but this gem. Needless to say it came home :)

Although I will try it with the peeps, I'll want to scope it long term just because my vision is not so good, looking for scope mount suggestions if anyone knows about that.

Figured I'd share a couple pics of the newcomer with the good folks here at THR.

Cool guns with a neat history and the nice way half of them were scratched with a box cutter. I have shot a few. They were accurate peep guns. I have seen them scoped for benchrest, but have been overly impressed with them as 50 yr benchrest guns.

The scope mount rails are metric, I believe 10mm. Mine wears a Weaver CK15 scope and a Tubb's 6 way adjustable butt plate in place of the plastic spacers. I'll post a pic when I'm at a real computer. I'll see if I can find what type of mounts I used.

The fellow who let me shoot his at 50 yds, where it put .22 cal holes in .22 cal holes, opened up to unremarkable groups at 100 yds using garden variety std velocity ammo. We plan to see what these can do at 100 yds with some good match ammo.

Actually, I meant to say I wasn't overly impressed when someone tried to use them as 50 yard scoped benchrest guns.

I would guess the scope rails are 11mm like European guns. I have used 10 buck airgun rings on CZ'S with great success.

I don't think the 82G's are intended to be BR rifles, they were trainers. Can they be into a competitive BR gun? Probably if you don't mind spending a bunch of money in it but then you could get a Hall or Turbo and be done with it. Use mine mostly for plinking.

I bought a $425 CMP model towards the end of them. Had a very small scratch from the knife. Other than cleaning the bolt, the rifle was perfect in every way.

I made and installed adjustable hardware on mine. I trimmed the forend down and also refinished the stock. At the same time I threaded it for a suppressor and touched up the crown. When not using the irons it wears a Nightforce in Nightforce rings atop a DIP rail.

Mine uses UTG Air Rifle/Rifle rings in the Medium hight for a 40mm scope.

I also refinished the stock and sanded in a thumb grove behind the action

DubbleA, you are 100% correct. They were intended to be Trainers. I have see a lot of guys try to make BR guns out of them though. Most don't do so well.

Ford: is the hardware on the back commercial or home made. I'm looking for something like that.

It's a TUBBS,
Graco, Jones and Morgan also make them.
I am impressed with the Tubb's. Was oversized so I scribed it and ran it on a belt sanded. Actually a pretty easy install.

rimfire central has a kimber subforum with loads of kimber 82 g info... I grabbed a couple at towards the end of them at the cmp... went to buy one and thought they will be gone soon and I was mad at myself for missing the first run and did not want to do it again...

I took a different approach with my 82G. I use the 82G as a training rifle for my 308 work. I have a great 308 Remington 700 5R and a nice 3.5-10X scope on it. The 6X scope is right in the middle of my 308 scope range, so the target perspective is close enough for Government work (ha).

A training day on the range is 100 rounds of 22RF prone through the 82G and 20 rounds through the 700 5R.

I have 11mm Leupold rings on the 82G, designed for an Anschutz target rifle. They work just fine. The other rings that were under consideration were Warne and Talley.

The 82G is just fine at 100 yards with SK Rifle ammo. It is a joy. I just wish I could read wind better.
