Hey guys, I was looking for a ccw 1911 and a guy I know says he has a Kimber Pro Carry. He says it is not the II, its just a Stainless Pro Carry. He is wanting 700 for it. What do you guys think?

What type of condition is it in?

My Kimber experience was awful but others swear by them. Give us more details and you'll get an answer.

That is why I was having so much trouble finding one. I typed in Pro Carry series 1 and stumbled across them. I'm studying them now

I have a pre-Series II stainless Pro Carry. $700 might be OK if it's in great shape.

Pro's:
Phenomenal accuracy. At least as accurate as my full-size target model

Lightweight, very easy to carry

Terrific ergonomics. Some people say the full-size grip and shorter barrel don't make sense (and I see their point), but man, does it steer well.

Con's:
Slide-stops: Mine needed to be filed down to keep from rubbing against the mag and locking back with rounds still in the mag. An easy enough fix but a common problem with early Pro Carry's. Hasn't happened since I filed it (at recommendation of Kimber customer service).

Soft metal for frame: That's why it's lightweight but feed ramp gets scuffed easily with hollowpoints and metal feed lips from mags. Also, hole for the slide stop is kinda dinged up--more so than it should be in my opinion.

Reliability? I put a question mark. It runs pretty well but every now and then there's an issue that seems to come out of nowhere (last one was mag froze up in magwell, had to pry it out). That prevents me from carrying it. I hold onto it because someday I want to send it out for a reliability package and a bobtail. If it runs, it's an outstanding piece.

They made the Pro Carry Series I in limited editions. $700 seems a little high to me but if it was in really good shape its in the ballpark.

If condition is good price is good for a Series I Kimber. They are the only Kimber I'd own.
