I'm getting my Wife a Kimber Solo. Because she just loves the thing. She most likely will want to keep it in her car or purse. I want to get her something like a holster with a strap but no belt loop. Custom leather tooling. Any help or direction here would be great. Thanks! Just browsed the list of manufactures... WOW! Any help narrowing this also a very big help. The gun is a pricy little thing and I want to add a very nice leather something-er-other to house it. Once more, thanks

I'm not clear what you're asking for here. Possibly a confusion of terminology. Almost all Outside the Waistband (OWB) holsters have belt loops. Are you looking for something that won't be worn on the belt, just carried in the purse? A pocket holster may fit your needs.

Custom leather tooling.
This will probably narrow down the selections a bit. Once again, this could be a terminology issue, but not all holster makers tool or stamp designs on their holsters. Tooling by the way, may significantly increase the price of the holster. Per my above comment about pocket holsters, I can't think of any that have tooling or stamping.

If you could clarify what you're looking for, at least so I can understand, I could make some recommendations. In general, the big names like Milt Sparks, Mitch Rosen, Alessi, Kramer, Tucker, etc., are all pretty safe bets, but I'm not sure they have what you're looking for.

Assuming she purse carries, most of the purses have velcro panel inside, and come with a small sleeve/holster with matching velcro so that you can stick the gun in and keep it oriented a certain way. Least thats how my girlfriends CCW purse works. In those circumstances its probably best to stick with that set up.

If she plans to just drop it in a normal purse and you want something to protect it then that is a different story. Either way I don't think I'd want a retention strap on it, don't want to further hinder access to it when she already had to dig for it.

JTQ, thanks. Yes, a pocket holster. I did not know they existed but that sounds exactly right. I want to spend a bit on this and would enjoy custom tooling. I did not see on of these on Kimber's web site. Thanks for giving me a direction.

I can't think of any pocket holster that has tooling, and since I'm still not clear, if you are asking for a pocket holster with a thumb break, I can't think of any pocket holster that has a thumb break.

Since I don't think tooling is available for a pocket holster, you may want to try exotic skin for the holster if you want to "fancy" things up a bit.

Andrews Custom Leather has a pocket holster and an exotic skin catalog though they don't show the pocket holster in the exotic skin catalog.

Andrews Exotic http://www.andrewsleather.com/exotic/exoticindex.html

Mitch Rosen doesn't really advertise exotics in their catalog, but I'm pretty sure I've seen Rosen exotic pocket holsters over the years.

Thanks all for your help. I went with Adams leather works. He built me holster and x2 mag pouch. I've never seen fit and finish work like his. His stuff is not cheep or fast. Funny thing about quality. Seem like patience and $$$ are almost always required. I did have a lot of fun browsing a bunch of the sites and learned a bit. His site is worth a look. I got my stuff from him several years ago. I remember getting a personal call to check on my thoughts regarding his work. Not used to that.

That's good you already have a source. I think he's still pretty custom so you may be able to tell him what you want and have him make it for you or he'll suggest something that may work for your needs.

If she is going to purse carry,,,

If she is going to purse carry,,,
This is a website you should look at.

Besides, it has the coolest picture ever on the front page.

www.guntotenmamas.com

I know several ladies who use their products,,,
They all are very happy with them.

I use their men's concealed carry briefcase myself,,,
The quality of their products is very high.

Just a suggestion.
