Elde writes (about the Rohrbaugh):

I change out the recoil springs as per factory procedure, every 200 rounds or so
.

Every 200 rounds!? :what: Is that what they really recommend, or did you mean 2000? That's more often than once every two sessions for me and my Kel-Tec.

I apologize for the assertion that the R9 "tears itself apart." I also would not actually compare it, quality wise, to the DB9. However I stand by my belief that neither was meant to be shot allot. Not only will the DB9 fail to stand up to extended shooting (as stated by the manufacturer), unlike the R9 (with very frequent spring changes). Neither is very pleasant to stay proficient with.
Tiny is great. For me, personally, I want something with real sights. Something that can be shot allot, without hurting me or the gun. 200rds is the start of a good day's shooting. This is however, just my opinion. I am only relating my parameters for selection. I do not mean to disparage or negate anyone else's choice.
We all have to find our "comfort zone."

If you are paying $500.00 for a CW9 you are paying too much. Here in Ohio I see them on sale regularly for $369.00-$379.00. In fact, there's a gun store in Findlay that sells the Kimber two tone for $659.00 that comes out to $701.84 with tax. Might be a good idea to shop around to see if you can find a better deal.

Didn't see this until I submitted mine, rendering my post irrelevant.

I think the Kahr's are a very good deal for the money when compared to the Kimber Solo. Since I have a HK P7 I'm set in the CCW department. If you see a deal on the P7 that would be my 1st choice to buy. Other than that check out the Kahr lineup.

Or dare I suggest a wheelgun :D

The Kimber Solo seems like a slick gun but its teething problems ruled it out for me.

That said, the gun that I did pick, the SIG P290, also started out with some teething problems but has since become a favorite. My gun, manufactured in March 2011 was one of the earlier ones with a trigger issue. After 35 rounds the hammer would not fall to make contact with the firing pin. SIG sent a label and the turnaround was lightning fast. The trigger was fixed and upgraded also with a new mag release installed. The new trigger was noticeably lighter and smoother than the original. The gun has been flawless since. I should add that this is the original non-reset (RS) trigger. That doesn't matter to me as my training is tap-rack. Plus, if need be, the trigger can be reset with a minimal rearward movement of the slide of about 2mm. While I don't recommend that, it would be a viable option except being one requiring relatively fine motor skills. I would also note that some have commented that the older non-RS upgraded trigger is somewhat smoother and lighter than the current RS trigger, but I can't confirm that through any experience. Nevertheless, folks seem very happy with the RS. SIG did add a bit of a beavertail to the RS and seems to have included a bit more of a fingertip to the mag floor plate. I'm not sure what that improved as slide bite really isn't an issue and that mag floor plate doesn't look to me like it would improve grip. The pinky is still going to go under the mag. Increasing overall dimensions on a sub carry gun without a considerable payback seems questionable, but who knows?

As to size, the 290 is very deceiving. If you look at its dimensions listed above it is one of the smaller pistols in its class. It is much smaller than you would think if you just picked it up in a gun shop. Being short and rather stumpy gives the 290 the illusion that the gun is bigger than it really is. In a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster the gun carries extremely well in cargo pants pocket. The gun is on the heavy side but with the right holster the gun is forgotten. I have seen some reviewers criticize the gun as being too big, or not needing to be that big, and I have no idea what the heck they are talking about. In every dimension that a carry gun matters it is pretty doggone minimal in size. Weight continues to be an issue for pocket carry, but the right holster solves that issue for the most part.

The P290 is accurate for its purpose, and then some. At least it's accurate enough for me. The gun has the same basic sights that you would find on a P220. The optional eight round extended mag is a big bonus. I haven't worked much with it yet but would only expect handling and accuracy to improve.

SIG shot themselves in the foot releasing this one too early for general consumption which has lead to a rocky start and a gun that is now a real sleeper. My experience is that it deserves much more respect and consideration. Sorry to go on like this but SIG seems to be releasing so many subcompacts at once that the P290 gets left in the dust when it could/should be leading the pack.

One other gun mentioned is one that I liked quite a lot, but not enough to keep. The Kel PF9 is one that I shot well and found to be well sized for its task. I found it accurate and reliable but had overall concerns about its durability over a span of years. I traded it away to pay for part of my Walther PPS, a gun which is in a class by itself.

I got my P290RS, with laser, for $493, shipped. I'm seeing better deals, now, if you look around.
I feel I'm hijacking this thread. I'll bump my review I did a few weeks ago.

Had one, thought it was the biggest piece of junk I ever had. A complete jammo-matic.:cuss::banghead::cuss::banghead:

For a while the P7M8 was the smallest production nine available.

I have a P7M8 and while I think it's a supurb gun, I want a pocket pistol now and I'm getting a Rohrbaugh R9.

I bought a DB9 two months ago almost as a lark...what a surprise it has been.

Several hundred rounds through it so far...no problems whatsoever. FWIW, the maker does not say it has a limited life and there are no scheduled spring replacements. They *do* say to restrict to 124 gr and lighter and no P+. I can live with that.

Target below is 75 rounds rapid fire at 20 yards offhand.

I have either handled, or owned all of the pistols mentioned, and yes, there were a lot of issues with the early Kimber Solos, but, I bought one earlier this year because, at the time, it was the only little 9mm that Crimson Trace offered a lazer grip for.
I think I've only put about 1K through mine so far, and with quality ammo, it has run 100%, and is one of my favorite carry guns.

I said the same thing about the DB9, I don't recall seeing where Kimber acknowledged a design problem or announced any change to the Solo.

What would make the buying public think that the pistols are different now than they were a year ago?

As stated in the other post...DB did add a third trigger pin.. Changes have been made.

Although Kimber didn't announce any changes to the Solo, that I'm aware of, all you have to do is search for reviews, and you'll see positive reviews in the last 10-12 months, and very few, if any, negative reviews on the newer pistols.

About six months ago I bought a Beretta Nano. As it has better sights and a smoother trigger than my Kahr CW9, I sold the Kahr. The Beretta is actually fun to shoot and doesn't punish your hand like most small 9's. I have approximately 500 rounds through it and not a single malfunction. It is now my EDC. I also have a Glock 26, but prefer the narrowness of the Beretta.

I said the Nano was now my EDC, but last week I picked up a Smith&Wesson Chiefs Special Model 36-1 J-frame. This particular one is an odd bird: it has a 3" barrel and a square butt, rather than the very common 2" barrel and a round butt. Bought it because I had never seen one before. So now I'm alternating EDC with it and the Beretta.
