People,

I have a Kimber Tactical Pro II in 9mm on order and was curious whether any of you have had any recent experience with the handgun. My plan is to use it as a carry weapon and in local IDPA matches (ESP division).

I lusted after one when they were first announced, but it took me a while to actually get my hands on one.

I thought it was AWFULLY heavy, and ultimately declined to purchase one.

How does yours carry? How does it shoot?

Michael,

I have yet to receive it. I should take possession of it later this week. And I will let you know what I think after I have taken it to the range.

I started shooting local IDPA matches recently with a full-sized Springfield 1911 in .45 and liked and like it much. But the cost of ammo was eating me up. So I increased my gun collection (any excuse is a good excuse to add guns to the collection) by adding a nearly-identical Springfield 1911 in 9mm. It is a stellar gun to shoot...accurate, little recoil, and cheap ammo, but it was a bit heavy and large to also use as a carry gun, at least from my perspective. So I figured the Tactical Pro II, with the aluminum frame and 4" barrel, ought to be both a good shooter and also reasonably compact for carry purposes.

But I won't know until later this week for sure.

I do not expect to be disappointed.

I got one last Fall. I really like it - fairly light, accurate, nice trigger, eats everything (so far), easy to conceal and nicely dressed from the Kimber Custom shop ( ambi safety, night sights, checkered frontstrap, laminate logo grips). I also have a couple of Colt Commanders (one lt.wt.), but practice with the Kimber is a lot more economical. The only 'complaint' I have is that I'd prefer a matte silver frame rather than the blue/grey anodizing, but it's still very handsome. Enjoy!

Mike in VA:

Thanks for the input. I will let you know what I think later this week or first of next! Because I have a trip to the range planned for whatever day I pick up the gun.

FWIW, the folks at Kimber told me the majority of problems with the pistol are magazine related. Virgil Tripp was working on some Cobra Chrome mags and Wilson was to introduce some 9mm magazines. I don't know if either happened.

Mine runs 100 percent. I love that little gun.
Taking the Magwell off and replacing the mainspring housing with an aluminum one would cut down on the weight.
I find it very light but then I used to carry fullsize steel 1911.

Guys,

Well, I finally got the gun, and it is sweet. All that the ads say it is and more. Great shooter and great balance; it has moved to the top of my list of my favorite guns (and I have a lot of 'em).

It was serious tight when I brought it home, and it failed to go into battery with Federal American Eagle about a half dozen times during the first 100 rounds. But after that brief break-in period, a good cleaning, and a little oil, it is now 100% reliable.

It is now my carry gun, along with an extra mag, and I plan to use it in the local IDPA matches.

I give thumbs up to the Kimber Tactical Pro II in 9mm.
