kimber ultra carry

Looking at a Kimber that is advertised as an ultra carry (not +)

I recall handling an ultra carry + and it seems like the grip frame is full sized, even though the barrel/slide is around 3".

The one i am looking at doesn't have the rounded butt but it looks like the grip frame is longer than a typical officer's model even with the short barrel

So did Kimber make an ultra carry with the full-length grip, even thought it isn't a + model with the rounded butt?

The Ultra Carry II 9mm (Upper right) doesn’t have the frame you described, this one is a bit shorter than the full-sized guns.

My Kimber Ultra Carry II is the same as Riomouse911. Pick shows it matched up next to a Colt Defender for reference.



Doing a little searching this seems to be the original Ultra Carry. It was called the Kimber SIS Ultra Carry and is the pre model to the Ultra Carry II. It looks like it does have a bigger frame.

The SIS models were production copies of the guns specified by the Special Investigation Section of the LAPD several years back. The SIS was tasked with tracking and tailing violent offenders and interrupting their deeds… which led to several shootouts and ultimately the cessation of this function of the unit (Like Jim Cirilos Stakeout Squad at NYPD).

Kimbers LAPD SIS and SWAT-built guns got a great rep here in So Cal back in their day, and Kimber became the 1911 of choice for lots of LA County-area PD guys who wanted a 1911. (Now the hot ticket is the Staccato 2011, everyone seems to want one now.)

Any chance it's had a mag well installed and the frame isn't actually longer?

looks like it does have a bigger frame.

If you look at the distance from the bottom of the grip safety to the bottom of the frame, it looks the same as the UC2... especially compared to the full size.
